Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie

Hey there! Happy Saturday :)

I wasn’t planning on posting today but I had THE BEST BREAKFAST EVER and thought I should share it with you!

Per my typical morning, I woke up to a growling stomach (Does this happen to anyone else??) and a major sweet tooth. I knew that I didn’t want anything super sugary or unhealthy. I have been subsisting on bleached wheat flour products (read: white noodles, white bread and saltines – GROSS!) this entire week because of the stomach virus that decided to use me as a host beginning Sunday night. I needed some healthy, nutrient-dense food stat this morning!

I came up with something slightly sweet, uber chocolate-y, quick and easy (less than 2 minutes for prep!) and protein-packed! Chocolate for breakfast? Yes, my friends, it happened and it was delicious AND healthy.

It’s my Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie! P.S. Can you tell that Kyle doesn’t do ANY dishes while I’m sick. The only clean glass I could find was a mason jar :)

It’s Saturday, so chocolate for breakfast is okay, right?

Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie

Makes 1 Smoothie

  • 1 large banana, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup fat-free, plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder

Put all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

This smoothie comes in at 250 calories and 15 grams of protein – I think I could handle this for breakfast everyday ;)

What is your favorite weekend breakfast treat?

Comments

  1. Yum! I love putting some chocolate chips on my oatmeal if I’m in the mood for something sweet… chocolate for breakfast is so much fun!

  2. Yum! On weekends I like to take time and enjoy a hot bowl of oats or some fresh bread/toast.

  3. Oh my goodness! This smoothie recipe looks so easy! I always wake up starving, but it’s tricky because I’m a breakfast snob. Cereal is never good enough. I either want pancakes, or an omelet, or homemade oatmeal. I like the idea of this smoothie because it could probably be made in just a few minutes. Perfect for my growling belly!

    • This seriously takes less than 2 minutes from blender to belly :) I am not a heavy breakfast person so I usually reserve pancakes and the like for brunches out where someone else can make them for me :)
