Banana Bread Oatmeal

Some days I just need chocolate for breakfast.

Sweet, creamy, satisfying chocolate.

I could resort to taking a big bite out of the dark chocolate Lindt bars that I keep stashed away for “emergencies” but apparently society doesn’t approve of eating candy bars for breakfast.

Last week, I was having one of those chocolate-needing days. I wanted something healthy but I also wanted chocolate.

Enter, my Banana Bread Oatmeal!

Creamy oats, soft, flavorful bananas and – most importantly – sweet, sweet chocolate chips. This breakfast is healthy, will keep you full for hours and satisfies even the most intense chocolate cravings.

    • I have multiple stashes ;) Sometimes I even find chocolate that I forgot I had which always makes for an awesome day!

  6. I love those fiber one bars – the oats and chocolate . . . Fiber and chocolate for breakfast – yes please! I also really like the white chocolate macadamia nut LUNA bars too.

    • Oh I like the fiber one bars too! They don’t keep me full all morning though :/ I’ll have to check out the Luna bars!

  7. Melty chocolate chips in my oatmeal, why haven’t I done this before? Looks delicious!

  8. I have never been much of an oatmeal fan, but I feel like adding chocolate might help to convert me! ;)

  9. No chocolate for me – I’m allergic – but a sweet treat for breakfast is sometimes just a must. It’s even better if it’s healthy!

  10. I love adding chocolate chips and or cocoa powder to my morning oatmeal! It’s such a sweet treat every now and then.

  11. This looks so yum. I have to confess that I don’t think I’ve ever craved chocolate in the morning. I think it’s because I don’t like coffee, and chocolate kinda reminds me of coffee. BUT after 11ish, I’m all about the chocolate.

    • I must have been super confused/blown away about the fact that you don’t crave chocolate for breakfast because Kyle asked me what I was reading, haha! I totally understand how it reminds you of coffee though :)

  12. I actually have chocolate almost every morning – I eat Cascadian Farm’s Dark Chocolate Almond Granola with almond milk, mmm!

But your oatmeal combo looks amazing – will be trying it tomorrow morning!

  13. I think I need a bowl of banana bread oatmeal tomorrow morning! yum

  14. Adding banana to oatmeal is so good………….chocolate=yum!
btw, have you tried Chobati’s carmel with pinapple bits? The flavor is awesome and tiny container is perfect……….

    • I haven’t tried it yet! I tried the raspberry one last week and it was a little too sweet for me. I’ll have to give the pinapple one a try.

  15. i just had a banana oatmeal chocolate chip muffin for breakfast this morning :-)

  16. Mmm…this look delish. Thought you should know, today was National Drink wine day! :)

  17. Yum! I add chocolate chips to my oats when I’m in need of some chocolate in the morning, too!

  18. Kelly @ Hidden Fruits and Veggies.com says:

Go ahead, have a chocolate bar for breakfast, I wont judge! I made something similar to this with cream of wheat this morning (apparently I didnt want to take the extra 30 seconds to make oatmeal) without the chocolate chips– should’ve added chocolate chips! This sounds fantastic.

  19. I am a huge fan of putting peanut butter in my oatmeal…I never thought to add chocolate chips! I am definitely trying this tomorrow morning!

  20. So simple yet delicious! I always have oatmeal with banana in the morn :)

  21. Who cares what society says about eating chocolate for breakfast ;-) It goes great in everything from breakfast muffins to pancakes, so why not oatmeal. I like pain au chocolate for breakfast. It’s perfect with a café crême or cappuccino. I’m looking forward to trying this banana bread oatmeal recipe, though I’m not sure where I’ll find almond milk – I live in Europe and grocery stores have limited selection, but I’ll ask around. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Hi Gayla! You could totally sub any type of milk you like in this recipe, it would be great with anything :)

  22. this looks amazing!! I prefer my oatmeal on the thicker/creamier side. beautiful photos!
