It’s a Wonderful Life

I was originally planning to post about CrossFit today but yesterday I came across two inspirational quotes – one I found online, the other was shared by my yoga instructor – that I want to share with you.

But before I get to the quotes, yesterday was also the last day of Jamie’s Intuitive Eating Challenge and the beginning of my own intuitive living journey.

I’ve learned so much from Jamie over the past 21 days. Her focus hasn’t solely been around food, she has guided me – as well as the other participants – to learn to live from the inside out, to intuitively live my life.

She has taught us that we need to love and accept ourselves before we can truly begin to trust our bodies to guide us intuitively.

She has taught us that it is okay to make mistakes and to take a few steps backwards – it is all a part of the journey.

She has taught us to trust ourselves. To trust our cravings, to trust that our bodies will tell us when we are hungry and when we are full. To trust our ability to know what is best for us. No one else knows what you are feeling or thinking or experiencing on the inside besides you so no one knows what is best for you, besides you!

She has taught us to let our bodies guide us, whether it be with our food choices, our fitness routine, our career, our entire lives. Our bodies and minds are extremely intelligent and will guide each of us to where we should be if we only allow ourselves to listen.

I am so thankful for Jamie’s guidance and cannot wait to begin living my own intuitive journey through life!

I found this first quote online yesterday morning and immediately saw its relation to living intuitively. Once you love yourself, you learn to let go of all of the things that do not benefit you – You honor your mind, your body and your spirit.

The second quote that was shared by my yoga instructor resonated with me for hours after my class. Too often we take the little miracles in our lives for granted. Because of this, I’ve made a list of all of the little miracles I’ve been thankful for this week.

  1. My first handstand in CrossFit – It was against a wall and I didn’t hold it for very long but I. DID. IT.
  2. Jamie and her life-changing Intuitive Eating Challenge.
  3. An email I received from Haley earlier this week. It was about a retreat we will both be attending in May and her short note made my day :) Never think that the small actions you take won’t have a big impact on others.
  4. My body and that it allows me to do handstands, to practice yoga, to run. I really need to treat it better in return for all of the miracles it performs for me on a daily basis.
  5. My mom and her willingness to send me recipes multiple times because I tend to not write them down :) Her patience is incredible.
  6. Kyle and his love of wine. Yesterday morning before work I saw him seated at our kitchen island with a Surdyk’s wine sale catalog, a wine and food pairing guide and a pen in hand planning his wine purchases. It gave me a HUGE smile.

I’ll end this post with my second quote. From Thich Nhat Hanh:

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child – our own two eyes. All is a miracle.”

I hope you all have wonderfully happy and fulfilling weekends!

What are some things that you were thankful for this week?

Comments

  1. Loved this. This week while out for early AM walks with the dogs, I’ve been reminded to stop and smell the roses–or just enjoy the sunrise, the fresh air, etc.

  2. Gosh, I love this. How do you suggest getting involved in intuitive eating? I want to learn more about that.

    • I would recommend contacting Jamie! She has a March Intuitive Eating Challenge coming up in a few day. If you aren’t interested in the challenge, she also does one-on-one coaching :) Her email is: jamiemendell at gmail dot com and her blog is: http://www.studioeats.com

  3. I love this post! I especially agree with this “we need to love and accept ourselves before we can truly begin to trust our bodies to guide us intuitively.” So true. Thanks for sharing this! Happy Friday!! :)

  4. This is a fabulous post. I really wanted to join in on this month but I didn’t know about it until it was too late. Now it costs money which i’m not sure I want to do but I do think it’s an incredible program and so many amazing ladies could benefit from it!

    • Hi Sarah! It is totally worth the money :) I would do it again even if I had to pay for it. I recommend reaching out to Jamie to learn more!

  5. awesome job on the handstand!! you know i’m a fan!! hehe

  6. What a fantastic Charlie Chaplin quote. Think I may need to print that one out and start using it as my bookmark! This week I’m thankful for the blogging world and all their helpful advice and support in my running journey.

  7. Your post made me smile – thank you! I am thankful for the ability to run and do body pump and even though sometimes I am hard on my body, it continues to do the things I ask of it!

  8. Thanks for this! I was having a rough morning with my commute and this just made me take a step back.

  9. I love me some inspirational quotes! Self-love is one of the most important things. Without it, it’s near impossible to maintain any other strong relationships! We have to love and trust ourselves first. Happy Friday Becky : ).

  10. Thanks Sweetie. I am thankful for you and your zest for life.

  11. LOVED this post. I needed these words today. Thank you!

    • Andrea! You are the most intuitive person I know! You decided to be a farmer because it is your life calling. I totally look up to you :)

  12. Loved this post so much! Congrats on your first handstand! I know how exciting getting a new pose down can be :) Have a great weekend and enjoy all of that snow!

  13. Great quotes Becky. I’ve also learned about intuitive living before and I totally love that concept. I think you have to first love and trust oneself to be able to fully love and trust other people in your life and allow them to love and trust you… Also, I’ve been trying to appreciate small things lately and it really makes me a happier person.

  14. Great post! I am thankful for my running ability, my blog friends, and my family! I am also thankful that there is 1 week left until spring break! :)

  15. Great post, Becky! It can be so easy to get caught up in the day to day and forget to stop and appreciate all that we have. I am thankful for all of the delicious and healthy food available to me!

  16. What a sweet post! And I totally agree with you about all of Jamie’s wisdom. I had never thought about intuitive exercise or intuitive living, so her emails about those were eye-openers for me. :) And how awesome that you did a handstand! My next goal is to do an arm balance in yoga class. It might be a while though.

  17. I love both of these quotes! Both of them can mean so many different things to every person….thanks so much for sharing!

  18. I love these quotes! I’m thankful for food in the fridge and a roof over my head. All the research I am doing for one of my grad school papers is making more and more thankful for the simple things everyday. Congrats on the handstand!

  19. Becky! I just came across this just now and am SO TOUCHED. You are so sweet, and you have no idea how much this means to me. I’m currently sitting here thinking about a big decision (moving) and trying to figure out my next step and have a million questions in my head… I don’t do well with the unknown. Reading this, and especially that quote, really helped me to sink back into my intuition and try to listen for the answers that are right for ME. We all need reminders, and this was just what I needed to read right now. You are so amazing and I’m so glad that we’ve become blog buddies! :)

  20. love this post…. :-)

  21. Absolutely adore this post. You are amazing :D
