Today I’m excited to share with you a guest post from Alexia Foods – you know, the company with the AMAZING sweet potato tots and fries. Oh yes, don’t tell me you haven’t been convinced to purchase – and eat – an entire bag of those after seeing them at your local Whole Foods ;)
This post is all about how to entertain guests in the late summer/early fall months plus a delicious recipe at the end. I know I’m going to take full advantage of the tips – entertaining = new friends, right?!
Here’s Brittany from Alexia Foods -
As hard as it is to believe, summer is quickly coming to an end. Stores are stocking up on sweaters, boots and pumpkin-flavored pastries, which means one thing: now is the time to take advantage of summer weather before it’s over!
And what better way to take advantage of summer than by having friends and neighbors over to enjoy the last of the warm weather before fall arrives. To get the most out of your get-togethers, follow these easy tips for end-of-summer entertaining:
Use your outdoor space.
If you have a porch, balcony, backyard or rooftop that can hold a decent number of people, entertain out there rather than inside your home. Outdoor entertaining is definitely a seasonal occurrence so use your outdoor space while you can.
Keep it light.
Before we get into thick and hearty fall foods, embrace summer flavors. Nobody likes to feel heavy and weighed down by their food when it’s hot out, so stick to light, fresh flavors. Avoid roasted or deep fried foods and serve lighter appetizers like oven baked onion rings or fresh fruit. Be sure to also feature summer produce while it’s still in season.
Prepare for the elements.
If you do decide to entertain outside, be prepared for impromptu rainstorms or windy evenings. As a precaution, put candles in mason jars to prevent them from getting blown out by the wind and keep some outdoor umbrellas nearby for quick and easy setup.
Use your grill while you can.
It’s much less fun to grill when it’s cold or snowing outside, so use your grill while it’s still nice out. Burgers with grilled veggies is an easy meal to make when you’re casually entertaining, and you can easily lighten the meal up by using ground chicken or turkey instead of beef.
Even though it’s late in summer, humidity can still get pretty high. Keep your guests hydrated with multiple drink options and drink stations so that everyone can always have a drink within reach. You don’t need anything fancy; even something as simple as flavored water is always perfectly refreshing.
Here’s an easy recipe perfect for entertaining on the last of the warm summer evenings. Serve with fruit, pita chips or sweet potato fries for a light appetizer that’s delicious and super satisfying.
