#5 Treat Yourself Tuesday {TYT}

Welcome to the 5th edition of Treat Yourself Tuesday!

Treat Yourself Tuesday Badge

Again, a BIG thank you to everyone that participated in Treat Yourself Tuesday last week. I loved reading all of the ways you treated yourself and can’t wait to see what this week has to offer!

If you’re new to TYT, head over here to read about why I am a firm supporter and advocate for treating ourselves – even in the smallest of ways – everyday! I promise you will fall in love with the idea and once you do, please link up below :)

Based on the comments from the last two weeks, by popular demand, I have brought back a shopping edition of TYT!

I know, I know… It’s a hard life but when my readers request shopping adventures for TYT, I must please the masses and do some shopping! Now, can you all do me a favor and let Kyle know the reason for my shopping – sometimes he likes to ask questions about the piles of Target and Macy’s and J. Crew bags that take over our closet ;)

On Friday, my day was ridiculously slow – actually, ALL of my work days are super slow right now. Apparently my company doesn’t like to give new people work for the first month or so which leaves me bored because I prefer to stay busy. Anyways, I digress…

There is conveniently a huggeeee Macy’s a few blocks down from my downtown office. {There’s also a J.Crew, Nordstrom’s, Sephora, Ulta and Target but that story is for a different day ;)} As I am starting to lose my summer glow, I thought it was about time for me to get my foundation stick and powder re-matched to my skin at the Bobbi Brown department in Macy’s.

Bobbi Brown’s “mission” for makeup is completely my style: Let your natural beauty shine through. The in-store marketing campaigns say it all – Her models show off gorgeous makeup art while looking 100% natural. If you didn’t look closely, you wouldn’t know they were even wearing makeup!

While most of us ladies want to wear makeup to look and feel our best – heck, most mornings I need some sort of concealer in order to even look presentable! – Bobbi’s line allows us to wear it without being taken over by our makeup shades. Her colors blend in with your skin, allowing you to look your best without covering up your natural beauty!

Last Friday over lunch I walked over to Macy’s and was happy to see that the makeup counter wasn’t super crowded per the usual. I hovered around the foundation section for about 2 seconds before a makeup artist jumped at the opportunity to sell me something. Either she really needed a sale or I really needed some help with my makeup… or both ;)

I was matched to my normal foundation stick and then she offered to match me to a new corrector and concealer compact. Considering how intense my dark circles get when I work a 9-5 and that she mentioned something about a free gift, I was all for it.

I’m happy to report that I treated myself to a new foundation stick, a concealer/corrector compact and I got TWO free gifts – score! The free gifts were travel sized face and eye moisturizers (that I already use in the full size) and a compact with sample lip gloss and eye shadow.

I love new makeup <3

I am also happy to report that I was able to go shopping without breaking the bank – a huge achievement for me!

Now tell me, what did you do to treat yourself this week?

  1. oOo la la! As if you even need makeup though. You are gorgeous, Becky! I treated myself to a new vitacost order.. even though I had made my previous order just last week. Girl needs some nut butter =)

  2. Yay what a lovely treat! I love Bobbi Brown products — she is also an alumni from my college and our gym is named after her (she donated lotssss of money) I have totally neglected TYT :( I need to get back on this next week because I need a treat!

  4. I love Bobbi Brown’s philosophy too……what a smart and talented successful woman she is! I wore her cologne, Summer, all summer…..love it! I took Monday off and was super lazy—it was great, slept in, did laundry and then an order online I’d made last week arrived early. It was so fun to try on things and have them all fit. Then I got out for a walk………gorgeous day!

  5. Ohhh makeup — definitely my weakness. I actually have to limit how often I go into Sephora because I usually end up spending WAY too much money in there. I’m running low on a few of my favourite things, though, so I think a trip is in the works soon.

And how do you like that BB eye cream? I’ve been looking for a good one and I’ve heard some pretty good things about that one so I’m thinking about picking it up…
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted…. currently – october 2013 .My Profile

    • Sephora always has the best finds – They definitely drag me in with their sample sizes and merchandising tactics ;) I definitely think BB’s eye cream is worth it. A little goes a long way so it lasts forever and it helps with morning puffiness and allows for a very smooth makeup application!

  6. I haven’t bought makeup in ages – that would be a good investment despite the fact I rarely wear it. haha
Alex @ therunwithin recently posted…We’re on each other’s Team.My Profile

    • Well, if you never wear it, it might be overly expensive! But maybe if you had some good stuff, you’d find a reason to wear it more often ;)

  7. I’m a huge fan of BB–I’ve been using her products for probably 15 years! And I used to work very close to the downtown Chicago Marshall Fields/Macys and got to know the Bobbi makeup artists.

  8. Oh how I love shopping! Amazingly, I didn’t go shopping this past weekend. Justin was pretty happy about that. I try to explain to him that I always have coupons and I always buy stuff on sale, so I don’t break the bank. He just doesn’t understand! Boys!!! ;-)

  9. Yay for new makeup! I need to find some new makeup, I have been using some cheap stuff I got at target since I ran out of the some good stuf my mom had given me. I wish they sold trials of more things so I would know how my skin reacts to it. I should start using an eye cream, do you like this one?
Nicole @ FruitnFitness recently posted…treat yourself tuesday – an indulgent sundayMy Profile

    • I always want trials with mascara because I am allergic to so much of it. And this eye cream is a must! It lasts forever and makes your concealer go on super smooth!

  10. I got a new workout DVD!!!

  11. I did some major shopping this weekend and thought of you while doing it! I also learned a new trick: when I shop at Victoria’s Secret as part of my mass shopping spree, hubby doesn’t even question the shopping bill :)

  12. It’s no fun to be bored at work – makes the day she even longer. Hopefully things will pick up! Love makeup! I buy it all the time. It always seems like an affordable luxury.

  15. Yay for new makeup! I also love a good gift with purchase! I treated myself to some new shoes from Target on Friday and I napped a LOT this weekend.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food recently posted…Back To Being Fall!My Profile

    • New shoes + napping? Sounds perfect to me! I napped a ridiculous amount on Saturday – I think I took a 3 hour nap ;)

  16. I don’t wear makeup, but I love the idea of it! When I wear it, I feel like I walk a fine line between clown and attractive, so I hardly ever do. BUT that being said, I love buying a new tube of lipgloss. I have convinced myself that putting on lipgloss can change your entire look, so that’s what I do!

Sorry work has been boring. I have had my fair share of boring jobs and internships, and I can safely say being bored is WAY worse than being really busy. I hope it picks up soon!

    • Oh my gosh, I highly doubt you look like a clown in makeup! Although it must be super nice to just get up and go in the morning and forget about a makeup routine :)

  17. I love buying new makeup!! You don’t even need makeup missy, you are gorgeous! : )

  18. I’m a huge makeup junkie. So yay for new makeup!
Pretty sure I pick up something new at least once per week…it’s an issue but I can’t help it.
Bobbi brown always has some great makeup, I love the way she makes her foundations and powders. They’re probably my favourite bobbi brown products.

  20. Yay for new make up and free gifts with purchase! My friend recently hosted a Mary Kay party and I splurged on some new make up. If you ever have the opportunity to attend or host a Mary Kay party, I highly recommend it! I’m also so impressed with your ability to wake up at 4am everyday, you’re a champ!

  22. Fun!! New makeup is so awesome to get. I def want to get some soon!

  23. Gotta love free gifts! It removes the guilt when you get more bang for your buck.

I have been shopping a lot but I plan on returning most of it. I’m trying to find the perfect outfit for an engagement shoot next week. Ahh! Exciting but stressful.

  24. I’m one of those that hates to wear makeup. So I dont! (Only on my eyes) I’m sure I would look better with it but I’ve been blessed not to feel like I have to. I’ve never been a make-up wearer and hope it can always stay that way! :)

    • That’s so smart! I don’t wear much just because I don’t like how it smears and needs touching up during the day…

  25. Don’t worry, I think that shopping is one of the best ways to treat yourself :) I just hide the bags in the trunk of my car – ha

  26. I need to get onboard with this Tuesday ritual!

  27. Definitely a fantastic way to treat yourself! Working at home means that I actually don’t wear a lot of makeup anymore, but it’s always fun to go check out some new stuff.
And as for my treats in the last week: the cookies i just ate at the luncheon I went to, my Halloween costume that I bought over the weekend (which was pricey, but I’m so excited for it so it was worth every penny) and the fact that it feels like a Coke Zero kind of afternoon, which I will be treating myself to ;-)
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles recently posted…Skewed Perceptions. My Profile

    • OOooohhhh I need to figure something out for Halloween! What costume did you get??! Or is it going to be a surprise? I’m so bad at planning couple’s costumes, haha!

  28. I need new makeup or a makeup stylist I can’t decide which! Maybe I should treat myself to both? I treated myself to a full body massage last week and it was AMAZING!!

  29. Awesome! I am a newb in the skin makeup department, but I’m learning… I use moisturizer and powder and that’s about as complicated as it gets haha! Also awesome that you didn’t break the bank… that’s always the best feeling :D

    • Haha I actually only use the foundation stick on the edges of my nose so the lady was trying to teach me how to apply it everywhere! I just don’t like the feeling of too much on my face!

  30. So glad to have found your blog! I live in Chicago too and love shopping for makeup more than most things in life :)
