Archives for October 2014

Thinking, thinking, thinking.

It’s been a hot minute since I linked up with Ms. Amanda so I am back again today to share some random thoughts running through my head.

1. Meet Jorge. He’s an 8-week old puppy that is currently living at the Naples Humane Shelter. I want him… and by want, I mean need. I asked Mitchell if he wanted a little brother and he gave me a sideways glance. I’ll take that as a no. But this puppy, squeal! And this is why I can never volunteer at an animal shelter… Kyle and I would live in a madhouse of animals ;)

2. I miss fall. And I think I’ll miss winter for maybeeee 2.7 seconds until I remember that snow is awful and I hate all things cold. It’s been an awesome fall in the Midwest this year, but I think once winter rolls around, I’ll be much happier that I’m here… and not in 10 feet of snow.

3. I’m working on my Christmas list for this year and I don’t have much on it. I need some ideas. What are you asking Santa for this December?

4. I’m obviously a huge proponent of eating real, whole foods (Hello, y’all know I’m obsessed with Advo and that’s their main focus!) but it really annoys me when that is all someone eats. And it bothers me even more when they call someone out for not “eating clean.” Umm… hello, sometimes a gal just wants a bowl of froyo and some fries and a big glass of vino! Plus, it isn’t feasible to eat 100% clean all of the time… think traveling (unless you pack all of your food which is odd to me), eating at restaurants, family meals, etc. That’s why there is an 80/20 rule, it’s called balance, peeps. Live a little ;) #endrant

5. I haven’t really been into pumpkin anything this year. I know, lame. I am blaming the weather in Florida. With my luck, I’ll want all things pumpkin when it starts to cool down and only peppermint flavors are available. #firstworldprobs

And I think that’s all for today! Thanks to Amanda for the link up and I’ll see y’all tomorrow.

What is your favorite season/least favorite season? Fall/Winter

What is on your Christmas list this year? You’ll have to wait to see mine, I have a post coming up!

Peanuts or almonds? {recipe!}

Peanuts or almonds?

Almonds or peanuts?

Everyone has a favorite and lately it seems that the lovely almond has taken the spotlight. Well, not today my friends! Today is for my personal favorite, the peanut.

Think the little ol’  peanut is plain and boring? Think again!

PB Joy 4

I’m sharing a super easy, super tasty, and super healthy treat over on Jen’s blog today and you should most definitely check it out. It’s like Halloween candy without all the junk ;)

You know you don’t want to miss ’em!

#59 Treat Yourself Tuesday

I have a feeling that I’m going to disappoint you with this week’s TYT…

No beach photos… I know. I didn’t make it to the beach this week, gasp! No worries though, I did get plenty of water time and do a lot of other fun stuff.

Treat Yourself Tuesday Badge

If you’re new to TYT, head over here to read about why I am a supporter and advocate for treating ourselves – even in the smallest of ways – everyday! I promise you will fall in love with the idea and once you do, please link up below :)

As I mentioned on Sunday, we hit up the annual Stone Crab Festival for some tasty crab meat! The crabs were delicious even if they were $8/claw (yipes!)… Kyle told me I eat crab meat funny. Whatever, I have a method and regardless, it’s not how you get to the meat that counts, right?

stone crab

Ahem… moving on… The festival also had a drink called “Bucket ‘o Fun” – Sounds tempting, right?! It was HUGE (I wish I would have gotten a photo of someone else’s because it really was a BUCKET) so I decided to pass because my Saturday would not have been a bucket o’ fun had I drank the entire thing ;)

So technically this is a treat for Mitchell, but I had to share the photo of him in his new life jacket! Lifeguard Mitchell to the rescue ;) Shockingly enough, he didn’t fight me when I put it on him for the first time. He already associates the word “kayak” with the new thing in our garage that he’s excited to check out. So I kept repeating “kayak” when I was putting it on him and it worked! Now to keep him in the kayak when we take him out…

Life jacket

I haddddd to go to the mall last week to pick up my wedding rings (I somehow broke them and almost lost the center diamond while moving – whoops!) and as I walked by Bath and Body Works, I noticed they were having a fab sale on their expensive candles. BOGO – Heck yes! After smelling a bajillion candles, I decided to get two of the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin to make it feel a little bit like fall around here. If you’re looking for a good scent, this is it!

bbw candle

I also picked up some of my favorite body spray from Victoria’s Secret. Bombshells in Bloom is the bomb dot com! And it was also on sale – #winning

VS Body Spray

Again, same as last week, I have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen! I so happy to have my cooking mojo back…And I actually semi-photographed this one for y’all. Recipe coming your way next week!

Finally, Balance Bar treated me to their new Balance Bare bars. I have already tried the Mixed Berry Nut bar and it was OMG good! I can’t wait to give you a full review soon.

How did you treat yourself this week? Should I have indulged in the full Bucket o’ Fun? Probably, but instead I was super productive on Saturday <– Yes, that is the sound of an almost-30-year-old-lame-o.

I’ve been meaning to post this for a year now. A year.

I know… Time just has a way of slipping away, you know?

Anyways, my dear friends Katie and Melanie sent me a beautiful wishbone necklace as a good luck gift when I moved to Chicago last fall. {Like I said, this post has been a long time coming, ha!} Along with the necklace came a poem that I want to share with you. I think it’s a great way to kick off a Monday morning.

Promise Yourself: To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all of your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others are you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.  To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds. To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

– Christian D. Larson

Hi there! I hope you’ve had the chance to be out weekending the past couple of days :)

It was a pretty good weekend down here in Naples.

stone crab

Friday kicked off with the Stone Crab Festival.

Delicious crabs for daysssss!

spin calss

I decided to start Saturday with a sweaty spin class. It was a hot one for sure.

Next on the agenda was picking up Kyle’s new kayak!

photo 4 (99)

We purchased it from Sweetwater Paddle Sports – I highly recommend them if you’re in the area. The staff was super knowledgeable and helpful (they even assembled the kayak carriers onto Kyle’s car). They also do SUP, jetski and kayak tours if you’re just visiting as well :)

mitchell kayak

I ordered Mitchell a life jacket (it comes tomorrow and I cannot wait to torture see him in it!) and we attempted to teach him how to behave in a kayak. I have a feeling we will all be very wet when we try it for real…

After lounging all afternoon, we decided we should get out and do something… Mexican and froyo it was! I have no photos of dinner or dessert (we went to Salsa Brava and it was GREAT!! Another place I recommend for you locals!), but I do want to call out that I wore real, non-gym clothes TWO days in a row. I’m moving on up in the world ;)

bbw candle

After dinner, we came home and watched Addams Family. I had to light my new candle – It’s so good!

Today has also been productive so far! A family walk around the neighborhood…

photo 4 (100)

… a veggie-filled quiche for brunch… (believe it or not, but I might actually photograph and share the recipe with you!)

photo 5 (89)

… and finally purchasing and planting some greenery on our patio!

I love this plant’s flowers :)

I also love weekending, who’s with me?

Now, for the meal plan!

  • Chicken Cordon Bleu (per Kyle’s request… we shall see how it goes tonight!)
  • BBQ Chicken Salad (I’m missing EBC’s delicious salads so I’m attempting to recreate one)
  • Avocado Pasta
  • Turkey Burgers + Sweet Potato “fries”
  • Leftovers x2
  • Out to dinner

Have you been watching the Halloween movies on ABC Family like us? What did you do this weekend?

Friday Favs

Well, hello there!

I took a couple days off from the ol’ blog this week. While I am not working a typical 8-5, I am quite busy with a few things I have up my sleeve. I promise to fill y’all in (it’s exciting stuff… at least I think so!) by early next year… Anyways, I spent the last two days checking off to-do lists and getting schtuff done.

Man, that feels good.

Since it’s Friday, and I love sharing a few of my favorites each week, I’m back for another edition of Friday Favs!

1. Have you heard of tsu yet? It’s a totally new social media site where YOU own the content you post and get paid for networking and sharing awesome stuff, like your blog posts and photos from the weekend. You need an invitation to join, so here is my link that will allow you to create an account and get to doing what we bloggers do best, social media: You should definitely check it out… Plus, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want more friends on tsu ;)

2. This post. I’m not super into CrossFit (I tried it, it’s just not for me – I’m a runner and pump’er by nature ;) ) BUT I know a lot of my friends are and well, who doesn’t want to be ripped like Rich Froning?! Anyways, Advo is gaining steam in the CrossFit world for a few reasons: 1) the products work; 2) they have a great performance elite line; and 3) Mr. Froning himself is an unpaid endorser. In this post, Katie covers a few of the products that she loves using for her WODs!

3. Also, this letter to non-vaxxers. If you couldn’t tell, I’m fairly passionate about this topic. Regardless of your stance on the subject, this post makes a good point on protecting those who cannot protect themselves… those with compromised immune systems like children with cancer, pregnant women, the elderly, newborn babies, and those with auto-immune diseases.

4. The new Peanut Butter Chocolate Detour Smart Bars – Y’all know how I love everything PB + Chocolate… These are no different! Plus, their nutrition stats pack some mega protein that I love. I definitely recommend these to anyone who loves a little chocolate-y, peanut butter-y treat every now and again :)

5. Stone Crab Festival! This along with kayaking and a few other things is on our agenda this weekend. A festival in honor of crab meat? Heck yes! I cannot wait to check this out :)

I’m linking up with Katie, Heather, and Clare again today to share some of my favorites from the week.

Whatcha up to this weekend? What is your favorite flavor combination?

#58 Treat Yourself Tuesday

Gooooood morning! I didn’t get around to typing up this post last night – after making dinner I just wasn’t feeling it, so here I am this morning scrambling to get my treats into a coherent post. This is why I don’t  procrastinate ;)

Anyhoo… onto the treats!

Obviously the beach is always a huge treat. It’s still weird having a beach within a 5 minute drive, but I’ll take it!

sunday beach

While shopping this weekend, I picked up a super sexy one piece bathing suit (#saidnooneever, especially the one I purchased!) for the purposes of kayaking. Kyle bought a kayak last week and, well, bikinis and kayaking don’t go hand in hand ;) Instead of flashing the entire city of Naples, I’m opting to wear a one piece. No photos of it yet but maybe I’ll sneak one in while we’re kayaking.

Baking! I lost my cooking and baking mojo while in Chicago and I’m happy to report that they’re back. Peanut butter and chocolate-y goodness <3

Some new hair gel – Nothing too exciting here! But remember how I mentioned yesterday that my hair in humidity scares me? Yeah, it needed some taming ;)

And finally, an at-home pedicure. My toes were looking quite sad, so I freshened them up with some bright pink!

40 things that scare me more than Ebola

Remember the post I mentioned on Saturday? Yeah, it inspired me to create the following list. If you haven’t had the chance to read the link, head over there – Her list is freakin’ hilarious!

As I said this weekend, Ebola is scary. It’s a frightening virus with a low survival rate and one that lacks any type of proven cure. Yes, we need better policies and hospital training/protocols to prevent it from spreading. But are we going to catch it? It’s highly unlikely… And all of this media hype is only going to continue spreading fear. Fear does nothing but create hysteria – It will not solve the problem.

If you want to place your bets on something, I suggest you play the lottery. You have much better odds at winning a few million dollars than catching Ebola. And winning a few extra bucks sounds like something I’d much rather do anyways ;)

With that being said, here are 40 things that scare me more than Ebola:

  1. My hair in humidity
  2. Going bald
  3. My cellulite… The sexiness cannot be tamed
  4. A little old ninny crashing into my car
  5. Running out of Spark
  6. And wine
  7. Not having AC
  8. Flying, the fear is real
  9. Moldy grapes
  10. A worldwide Nutella shortage
  11. Spiders, especially the nasty ones here in Florida
  12. Packers fans
  13. Being eaten by a shark
  14. Hurricanes… the weather event, not the drink ;)
  15. The drought in California
  16. Poverty in America
  17. Undercooked chicken
  18. Kyle’s driving
  19. Not passing my BODYPUMP video
  20. Previews for Halloween movies
  21. Monsters under the bed
  22. Losing Mitchell
  23. Camping without running water
  24. Commuting, especially in Chicago
  25. Working in corporate America
  26. Breaking my neck in yoga
  27. Lake algae
  28. Cruise ships
  29. Earthquakes
  30. Dying while running a marathon
  31. Old men in thong speedos
  32. Falling off of a treadmill
  33. Needles
  34. Mom jeans
  35. The day that it will no longer be fashionable to wear lululemon all day, errrrday
  36. The prices at Starbucks
  37. GMOs
  38. Fox News
  39. Separation from my phone
  40. Super long toe nails

Now it’s your turn, tell me a few things that scare you more than Ebola.

Weekending, my new favorite pastime

Hello there! Happy weekending.

BTW, weekending is my new favorite word. Seriously. It’s catchy and who doesn’t love a good weekend?

I hope y’all are wrapping up a great Sunday… In the meantime, here’s what I was up to!

A Friday evening beach stroll <3

Saturday morning Body Pump… I almost convinced Kyle to join me but he opted for the weight room instead. Next time ;)

Checking out a new-to-me outdoor shopping center that could easily eat up my entire savings in about 2.7 seconds.

A healthy vegetarian dinner by no other than Chef Kyle himself!

Sunday morning beach time. Helloooo, Vitamin D.

And then this. Kyle is off to play tennis with a friend and as he was leaving, he politely requested this triple peanut butter and chocolate goodness of a cookie pie. Who was I to say no?! Plus, it’s by Averie and everything she creates is magical. I think I will need to send it to work with Mr. Kyle so I’m not tempted to eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next few days ;)

cookie pie

Last, but not least. My meal plan for the week! I actually like including this in my weekend recaps… It gives me a place to keep all of my links so I don’t have to email them to myself and/or lose them and forget why I purchased specific ingredients!

What are you making for dinner this week? Did you have any delicious, sugar-laden desserts recently? And one last question, what’s the best thing you did all weekend?

A few Saturday things…

Hiya! I’m popping in on this gorgeous Saturday with a few things :)

1. Something to make you laugh… I ran to the grocery store yesterday afternoon to avoid the crowds this weekend (and so I didn’t have to take Kyle with me… our bill is always $50 higher when he’s there!). Anyways, I was at the register when I realized I forgot my wallet at home. #palmtoforehead UGH. Thankfully, they bagged it all up while I ran home to get my wallet and they just had to scan the receipt in customer service when I returned. I have a feeling this type of thing happens a lot in Naples… and that my brain is starting to become acclimated to the retirement capitol of the world ;)

2. This hilarious post: 31 Things That Scare Me More Than Ebola. Yes, Ebola is a terrifying virus. Yes, it’s scary that it is in the United States. Yes, our hospitals need better training on how to deal with cases. And yes, people are blowing it wayyyy out of proportion. The chance of you dying from a mosquito bite is probably higher at this point than you catching Ebola. Stay cautious yes, but don’t be ridiculous. And in the meantime, read the article because you’ll get a good ab workout laughing!

Ebola Meme via In the Powder Room

3. I’ve heard it through the grapevine (okay, my email… I’m just pretending it’s the grapevine…) that y’all love our AdvoCare group challenges! It’s hard to complete a full 24DC by yourself, but with a group of fellow motivated Facebook-ers it makes it whole lot easier! Plus the recipe ideas help too ;) And because the group challenges are such a hit, I thought I’d share the November challenge.

It starts on November 3rd (so yes, you can swim in all of that Halloween candy!) and it ends the day before Thanksgiving. I don’t know about you, but this time of year is always tricky for me. {Halloween candy –> holiday baking –> Thanksgiving –> more holiday baking –> holiday parties –> Hanukkah –> Christmas –> ALL the foods!} It’ll be nice to get a little clean eatin’ in during the craze of the holidays.

If you have questions you can email me or if you’re ready to have a healthier holiday season, you can jump right in and buy it here.

Now, I’m off to enjoy the weekend! See y’all next week!
