#68 Treat Yourself Tuesday

With Christmas and the holidays come and gone, how about we make this a Christmas Treat Yourself Tuesday? Spending time with friends and family and having a few days off from our typical routine is definitely a treat if you ask me!

Treat Yourself Tuesday Badge

If you’re new to TYT, head over here to read about why I am a supporter and advocate for treating ourselves – even in the smallest of ways – everyday! I promise you will fall in love with the idea and once you do, please link up below :)

So, whatcha get for Christmas?

Bears shirt

There were lots of gifts this year, but I think Mitchell Junior won by far… Check out his pile! And this doesn’t include a few items including more clothes, a cute monkey burp cloth/bib, thermometer, and a boppy.

Baby K Christmas

My holiday was all about fitness, if you can’t tell by the photo ;) Hand weights, Beats (that I’ve been wearing for a few weeks now, haha!), Jawbone UP, Lulu yoga mat, and Spark along with gift cards to Chipotle (It’s big enough to last me a few months!), Macy’s and a veggie cookbook that belonged to my grandmother. Oh! And a “Veggetti” – It’s kind of like a mini-spiralizer. I haven’t used it yet but I imagine it’s like the larger model, just small-space friendly.

Becky Christmas

Taking a peak at Kyle’s stash, his theme was all things for the kayak and shirts. He got about one hundred little gadgets for the kayak that are stashed inside that big, yellow wet bag including a compass and waterproof matches. You know, in case he needs extra heat here in Florida ;)

Kyle Christmas

We also received a hiking backpack carrier for the kiddo from Kyle’s parents. He won’t be able to use it until next winter, but Kyle’s excited for it! I am too… I figure that I have to hold the kid inside of me for 9 months, Kyle can carry him for the next 18 years. Seems fair, right?

Kyle and I got each other cruises to Key West. There was a Christmas special so we got a really good deal and are going to turn it into a babymoon. It’s a 3-4 hour cruise from Ft. Myers to Key West where we will spend a night or two and then cruise on back to mainland. Let’s just hope the island makes virgin daiquiris and mojitos and has lots of ice cream to keep me from crying into an empty margarita glass…

Thanks again to everyone for the gifts! We were all definitely spoiled and had a wonderful holiday with my aunt, uncle and cousins.

2015 Goals

We’re down to the wire. Two days until 2015 is here… TWO DAYS!! <– Where has 2014 gone?!

If you know me at all, you know that I’m the type of person that feels best when my life has organization, minimal stress, and a plan. What can I say, I’m a first born ;) Because of this, I like to set goals. I like to have something to work toward and look forward to in the future. Studies show that those who are goal-oriented tend to push themselves harder and find success, even if they don’t quite reach their goals in the end.

I’m all about improving myself every single day and I think goals are a great way to achieve results! So obviously, with all of the above being said, I have set some 2015 goals for myself… although I’m not waiting until 2015 to get started. I still have two whole days to get a jump start!

1. Survive child birth. I’m sure that’s easier said than done.

2. Have a healthy baby boy in May… or April. I won’t deny him the opportunity to show his face starting at 36 weeks ;)

This is the year I will be stronger, braver, kinder, and unstoppable. This year I will be fierce.

3. Continue to motivate and encourage my fabulous AdvoCare team while having a freakin’ blast. They are rocking their socks heading into 2015 and I’m so excited for what is to come for each of them!

4. Acquire a few more fitness certifications in addition to Les Mills BODYPUMP. More to come on this…

5. Work on getting back into shape post-baby. I’m not naive enough to think I’ll be 100% by the end of the year but, again, my goals are set to motivate myself to push harder. I’ll be doing a post-baby 24DC once I get into the swing of things and will get back to the gym as soon as my doctor gives me the go ahead. All you fit mamas out there are great inspiration – keep it up!

6. Keep on blogging! This is an obvious one ;)

2014 To-Dos...I don't believe in resolutions rather a commitment to a plan for better living everyday

7. Adjust to becoming a human mom. (AKA – Let Kyle know he’s basically going to have to do everything house-related for the first month (my mom will be here to help for a bit too); Not kill visitors from out-of-town (We are trying to come up with some sort of schedule so everyone doesn’t come at once/too soon/too often and stress me out and so we can create some sort of routine for ourselves.); Still love on Mitchell; Subsist on less sleep (gimme ALL the Spark); Deal with a screaming child.) I think I’m a pretty good dog mom but a baby is a little bit different… Like you can’t leave them in the kennel while you grocery shop apparently. LOL.

8. Buy a house. This is actually Kyle’s goal. I’m not over renting but he likes to feel “permanently” established so we will see what happens summer 2o15.

There you have it – My goals, or resolutions if you like, for 2015! The next few months are going to involve a lot of change and I’m ready for it!

What are some of your goals or resolutions for the new year? The final image is LARGE but it is a good one so I thought I’d include it at the end!

Weekending – Christmas Style

Can you weekend for 5 days straight? Well, I definitely did this week and I can’t wait to share it with you via photos.

Christmas Eve began with a sweaty spin class…

The rest of Christmas was spent at my aunt and uncle’s (my cousins were there too!) in Tampa. I left my phone in my bag and enjoyed the day so no photos :)

Day after Christmas sluggishness called for lots of Spark to wake up after indulgences!

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the Night Before Christmas

By: Clement Clarke Moore; Edited, non-rhyming version by ONW :) Find last year’s edition here.

christmas tree

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the humid Naples apartment
Not a creature was stirring, not even Mitchell Man.
The Gingerbread AdvoBar was set by the window with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

photo 3 (25)

Mitchell was nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of treats and ocean swims danced in his head.
And Kyle in his tear-stained Bear’s jersey, and I in my bumped out sock monkey onsie,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

photo 1 (9)

When out on the Naples Pier there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash (because MJ was kicking my bladder, not because I am fast),
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

naples beach

The light of the moon on the breast of the Gulf of Mexico
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature surf board, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old surfer, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than the hurricane winds they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen!
To the edge of the beach! To the panhandle let’s go!
Now surf away! Surf away! Surf away all!”

As palm trees that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sea.
So up over Naples the coursers they flew,
With a sleigh full of baby toys and wine (for May) and gallons of cream cheese, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the sand,
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was returning from the bathroom,
In through the window St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with smog and dirty sand.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a grandpa, just arriving home from Toys ‘r’ Us.

His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the sand.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of Nutella!

He was perfect and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled the Spark Shelf, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, out the window he flew!

He sprang to his surf board, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he sped out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

Merry Christmas to you and yours from all of us here at the ONW household!

Christmas Eve Survey

It’s Christmas Eve! I’m practically shaking with excitement here, y’all!

My plans today involve heading to spin this morning, learning a few more BP tracks, grabbing a hot cocoa from Starbs to make apartment cleaning a tad more bearable and then heading to Christmas Eve service tonight.

I saw this survey on Amanda’s blog a few days ago and thought it would be the perfect segway into Christmas. I’d love to read some of your answers in the comments section below!

Egg Nog or hot chocolate?
Egg Nog is nasty so hot chocolate ;)

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
He wraps them and fills my stocking! The photo below is Santa’s visit from last year for my sister and her husband, Kyle and I. Apparently his sleigh is now redirected to my mom’s house for the boys too ;)

photo 4 (2)

Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White lights! If I ever decorate the outside of my house, however, it’ll have the big ol’ colored retro Christmas lights.

christmas tree

Do you hang mistletoe?
No, but I did see some for sale at Trader Joe’s this year.

When do you hang your decorations up?
Whenever I want! This year it was a few weeks into November… before Thanksgiving, the horror!

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
My mom’s Holiday Cranberry Salad <– It is SO good! I also love green bean casserole.

Favorite holiday memory as a child?
The elves visiting each night in December. They’d leave my sister and I candy in our Advent calendar… One morning during Christmas break I even found a jingle bell in the ice outside. Apparently our elves had extra time on their hands… ;)

What is on your Christmas wish-list?
ALL the things! I reallllyyyyyy need this. Like need need. And the rest of my list is here.

Do you open a gifts on Christmas Eve?
Nooooo! That’s breaking the rules! You MUST run downstairs as soon as your eyes open (but no earlier than 6am) on Christmas morning. Then you have breakfast and play with your toys for the rest of the day :)

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
This year I have white lights, red berries, and red and gold ornaments. I like to be matchy-matchy. {See above photo.}

Snow? Love it or dread it?
Let’s just say we moved south for a reason. Mitchell’s face says it all.

photo 1

Real tree or fake tree?
Fake this year. I’d love a real tree but those are few and far between in the land of palm trees ;)

Do you remember your favorite gift?
I’m sure it was an American Girl doll or something along those lines.

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
The fun and tradition of preparing for the season. I’m excited to start some of our own traditions with a baby next year!

What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Birthday cake for Jesus (we always had one when I was growing up) and peanut butter balls.

What is your favorite tradition?
Candlelight service on Christmas Eve followed by chili and oyster stew – yum yum yum!

What tops your tree?
A star. We typically had an angel when I was growing up though.

Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?
Both. I think that’s okay :)

What is your favorite Christmas song?
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree <– Do ya have it stuck in your head now?! ;)

Candy canes, yuck or yum?
Ehhh… I could pass. All of the peppermint recipes don’t do anything for me this time of year to be quite honest. I did like my grandma’s mini-candy canes as a kid though.

Favorite Christmas Movie?
Love Actually or Peanuts

What do you leave for Santa?
Cookies and milk as a kid… This year it’s going to be a Gingerbread AdvoBar and MRS ;) He needs his protein to get through the rest of the night!

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
LOL. Does ripping through presents as quickly as possible count? I’m going to start a few next year including family onesies (I apologize in advance to the little guy for any future embarrassment this might cause!), early morning present opening, family breakfast and a walk before dinner!

Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?
I prefer shopping in the mall up to December 15th. After that  point it is just a chaotic mad house and I’d rather have Amazon ship items directly to my door in less than 2 days :)

Christmas letter or Christmas card?
Cards. I rarely read letters I receive (sorry!) and I love hanging the cards around our apartment.

Answer one of the above questions! I’m excited to hear your Christmas traditions.

#67 Treat Yourself Tuesday

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! While it doesn’t quite feel like Christmas in our humid, 80-degree weather, the last-minute shoppers are definitely filling up the Targets and the grocery stores here. Remind me to stay away until next year ;) But back to the topic at hand… CHRISTMAS is going to be here in TWO days! Can you tell I’m excited?

Treat Yourself Tuesday Badge

If you’re new to TYT, head over here to read about why I am a supporter and advocate for treating ourselves – even in the smallest of ways – everyday! I promise you will fall in love with the idea and once you do, please link up below :)

Now for the treats!

katie chex mix

First of all, Katie treated me to some delicious Christmas goodies from her kitchen. Definitely check out the recipes on her blog – these are both soooo good! And I may have just finished off the Rolo Pretzel Sammies for breakfast ;)

Mallory Open Cardigan

Yesterday I treated myself to a new, and quite affordable, sweater from White Plum. Cute, right?! Head on over to Ashley’s blog for a discount of your own… In addition, White Plum is offering FREE shipping for the next week or so!

guest room

It might not seem like much of a treat but I FINALLY have the guest bed made. Can anyone else relate to my hatred of washing and changing duvet covers?! It’s almost unbearable, LOL. But the bed is now ready for guests we will start having in a few weeks :)

Mitchell Playdate Collage

A play-date for Mitchell! He played well with the other dog, didn’t run away or jump into the pool, so I’m calling it a success ;) AND he was tired for the rest of the day. YES.

moe's salad

Finally a salad from Moe’s Southwest Grill. I have been wanting to try Moe’s ever since moving to Florida but Chipotle has always won out… Well, Kyle was served lobster tail and fresh shrimp for lunch yesterday (his office provides lunch every weekday – awesome, right?!) so I figured I could treat myself to a little Moe’s. It was pretty good. I definitely prefer Chipotle but I’m glad that I tried it.

I hope you’re having a fab TYT finishing up last minute Christmas to-do’s!

How did you treat yourself over the last week? What is your favorite “fast-food” Mexican restaurant? I’m sure it’s Chipotle… I just need to confirm ;)

Fit with ASICS

I have a confession… I’m guilty and I bet you are too.

I tend to cross-train with running shoes. *gasp*

I know, I know… There are shoes made specifically for cross-training but I have a bajillion and two pairs of running shoes and it was somehow just easier to wear those to BODYPUMP or for the deathly StairMaster or for boot camps at my gym.

fit with asics

Let me tell you, my friends, my days of wearing my running shoes for BODYPUMP are long gone all thanks to ASICS.

Enter the Gel-Fit Sana, a versatile training shoe that has the perfect fit to take you from BODYPUMP to a fun, pre-holiday shopping day in the city.

fit with asics 3

Yup, I finally tried a shoe made for cross-training and my fitness life has been forever changed. What are the odds? ;) I no longer have to adjust my feet during the lunge track of BODYPUMP… my feet don’t slip and I don’t look like I’m doing the splits while trying to stay in perfect lunge form <– That is a feat in and of itself! I always thought studio floors were a bit slippery but apparently it was my choice in footwear.

fit with asics 2

In addition to being a shoe that is fit for any cross-training activity (including shopping, hehe!), the Gel Fit Sana is also super fashionable (they’re cute, right?) and light, oh so light! It’s one of those shoes that you have to remember you’re actually wearing which makes it great for all-day wearing, long walks around Paris (I wish!), Christmas shopping, and chasing your kids and/or dogs around the park.

Another thing? ASICS ships these babies super fast, so if you need a last-minute holiday gift for the fitness guru in your life, I suggest sending a pair of Gel-Fit Sanas to your cross-training pal. They’ll love you forever and you’ll be certain that these will be a gift that won’t be returned!

Tell me… What type of shoes do you wear for cross-training?

This post is sponsored by FitFluential on behalf of ASICS.

You guys, my weekend was super lame. Not that that is a bad thing… I’m just warning you in case you want to stop reading now ;)

Friday night Kyle and I hit up Coconut Point Plaza (<– the outdoor mall is bigger than the small town I grew up in, no joke!) for a quick dinner and a movie.

friday din

I had a chicken salad with strawberries and feta – yum! We were almost late for our 7:10 movie but made it just in time. Exodus is pretty good – I recommend it if it’s on your list!

Saturday may have been one of the laziest days in history for me. I slept in until 8:30 (craziness!) and the only time I left the apartment was to go on a 30-minute run in my neighborhood. It’s nice to have those kind of days every once in a while :)

hot run

Actually, for most of the day, I spent my time learning 5 more BODYPUMP tracks. My GM emailed all of us BP instructors on Friday afternoon and asked that we incorporate 91 into our classes this weekend… so nice of her to give us less than 48 hours of notice… at least I have the Sunday afternoon class and not the Saturday AM one ;) But the memorization is done and I really like 91 – wahoo! I also learned a bunch from 92 since I will be launching that on January 4th.

Saturday night, Chef Kyle made dinner – Shrimp Alfredo, and then we plopped down and watched a few episodes of Mad Men. I’m becoming slightly obsessed with the series.

shrimp alfredo

This morning I practiced my new BP tracks to make sure I had them down, walked Mitchell and relaxed while Kyle took the kayak out for a spin.

I taught my weekly YMCA BP class at 1:30 (I’ll also be teaching Tuesday evening at 5:30pm and Friday at 11am at Naples Family Fitness if any of my fellow Napoleans want to get their muscles on this holiday week!)

And now I have a delicious smelling broccoli cheddar soup in the crock pot – yummmm! Can’t wait for dinner! In case you were curious, this is the only way I’ll eat that veggie ;)

broccoli soup

I hope y’all had a great weekend and enjoyed your Hanukkah celebrations (we missed Kyle’s family’s celebration last night) and are wrapping up your Christmas preparations!

Also, make sure you check out my guest post over on Hidden Fruits and Veggies! I forgot to mention it in my Friday Favs post… holiday brain I tell ya…

Tell me something exciting from your weekend… like margaritas and wine and par-tays in a snowy cabin and shopping :)

Realistic Holiday Fitness Tips

Christmas? Already?! When did that happen?

Yeah, the holidays, it is the time of year where most of us are avoiding the gym, but fear not! Today, I come to you with some realistic (<– key word here!) tips on how to stay active during the holiday season.
