If we were having coffee…

It’s 6:30pm. Dean is asleep. Kyle is out for happy hour with friends. I have some goodies baking in the oven.

I’m stumped – WHAT DO I DO WITH MYSELF??

It is the perfect time to chat with y’all, yes? I don’t think I’ve ever done a “coffee” post but there is no time like the present to hop on an (old) trend ;) Since I rarely drink coffee these days, I’ll mix up a Spark and you can do the same or pour yourself a cup o’ joe.

I’m linking up with Lynda, Deborah, and Coco for the ultimate coffee date!

If we were having coffee…

… I’d tell you that I have yet to learn my tracks for BODYPUMP 97 that we are launching on Saturday. Whoops! Thankfully I have the core track and the cooldown track. Easy peasy ;)

… As I sip on my limeade Spark, I’d tell you that it is my new FAVORITE flavor. I don’t think anything will ever surpass my beloved fruit punch but this comes reallyyyyyyy close. Yummo!

… I’d mention that we received Dean’s 1st birthday invitations in the mail on Monday and they turned out great! We are having his party on his birthday (May 14th) since it falls on a Saturday this year. I can’t wait to put everything together – Kyle’s in charge of food (with my approval, haha) and I am in charge of the cake and the decor.

… I’d sleepily let you know that Dean has been going to bed like a champ the past week or so but is loving the 5:30am wake up time. We need to nip this one quickly with a later bedtime I believe… Per the “wonder weeks” app, he is in a leap so once that passes I’m hoping we are back to our 7am alarm clock.

img_0615-1

… I would tell you how excited I am for my April “Booty Bootcamp” coming up in a few days! I have a fun group joining this month and we are going to get some stronggggg badonkadonks, hehe…

… I’d say that I could really go for a glass of wine right about now. Yes, I know it is 7am… #its5oclocksomewhere I’ve been cutting back on my vino consumption during the week because it is healthier for me but, yeah, I could really go for a glass of wine. Please and thank you ;)

img_0532

… I’d be really annoyed with Instagram! Per the gossip train, I heard they were changing the order of the posts but I haven’t noticed it on my feed yet. Anyone else? I’d be quite sad if the rumor is true – Instagram is my favorite social media outlet and I don’t want it to change!

… I’d check my watch (okay my phone, I don’t wear a watch!) and tell you I have to run – I’m still teaching a lot of classes (and lovin’ it!) but it means I have to know the time of day all day errr day.

Have a wonderful Thursday, friends!

What is one thing you’d tell me if we were having coffee?

Kitchen Remodel Inspiration

When we moved into our house almost exactly one year ago (our closing anniversary was on Saturday!), Kyle and I knew we wanted to eventually remodel our kitchen. Just prior to moving in, we knocked down a wall and purchased all new appliances and have been patiently waiting to redesign the rest to our personal taste. While we aren’t quite ready to take the remodel leap yet – we’re thinking next spring – it is never to early to start brainstorming design ideas… especially for someone who lacks allllll design/decor expertise ;)

So, I have 12 months to decide what I want… Here are some initial inspiration pieces that have drawn my attention.

Subway tile backslash. I LOVE this gorgeous farmhouse kitchen designed by Love Grows Wild. Although, I do worry that it gives off too much of a modern feel for our house. Is it too trendy? Will it be out of style in a few years? I want the kitchen to have a classic look that will look great for years to come. I know, I know… good luck with that one as design preferences change quickly!

If we go with subway tile, I would definitely stick with white – I love the fresh, crisp look.

This Indiana farmhouse just got a BIG kitchen makeover! Click to see more photos and sources for this gorgeous space at LoveGrowsWild.com

White cabinetry. I’m very thankful we have high quality, good looking cabinets in our kitchen (those things are pricey!), however, I would like to change their color. They’re currently a light colored wood (my personal preference is dark wood…) and I have always wanted a kitchen with white cabinets. Again, that crisp and clean – as long as you can keep ’em clean! – look is super appealing.

A cookbook shelf. How ingenious! Right now our cookbooks take up a cupboard and some counter space… I love the idea of moving them to the end of the island.

Sink-front towel rack. This is so simple yet so ingenious. I despise dripping water onto the floors after hand/dish washing… This little feature is going on the top of my list!

Planning our DIY kitchen remodel— options for apron-front, farmhouse sinks... and why I decided AGAINST FIRECLAY.

Toe kick drawers… How have I never thought of this before! We have so many skinny, long pans that would store perfectly here. Genius!

Toe Kick Drawers for additional storage below cabinets!

A new, larger island. We are still debating the style we would like, but we do know that we would like it to be a bit longer (there is an “awkward” space in our kitchen that isn’t quite large enough for a table but big enough it needs something…) and maybe a bit higher so we can set bar stools on one edge. I do like this style, with the extended table on one end.

Kyle requires the larger island to have a build in wine refrigerator – or two – so that will be included too! I found about a bajillion images that I loved for this option so I’ll just leave y’all guessing until it’s installed.

I know big ol’ white farmhouse sinks are all the rage but I think we will stick with the plain and boring stainless steel sink. I’m still undecided on this one though… I’ll probably take the recommendation of our designer when we start our remodel process.

New counters. O to the M to the G do we need new counters. Ours are a crappy (for lack of a better term) plastic type of material that I am embarrassed to look at myself. I’m open to granite or marble or ANYTHING other than what we have… I’m thinking a light colored counter as we have had dark counters in the past and they show every drop of dried water that touches them.

White Dove Cabinet. White Dove Kitchen Cabinet. Benjamin Moore White Dove. #BenjaminMooreWhiteDove

And finally, new light fixtures for the island. This decision totally overwhelms me! There are so many fun options out there, I think it just comes down to what will look best in our home. Again, this decision will be made with the help of our designer!

Have you ever remodeled a kitchen? Or any part of your home? What style of kitchen do you like best?

Weekending – BODYPUMP, Bunnies, and Brunch!

Alternate title: The weekend of the letter “B” ;)

Happy Easter! I hope you had a wonderful day full of celebrations and that the Easter bunny treated you well.

How about a little weekend update?

It was a chill Friday night… Wine, obvs…

And practicing our walking skills.

Saturday morning called for golf (for Kyle) so Dean and I hit up the Y for some BODYPUMP. And Spark. Alwayssss Spark!

Then it was lunch at The Counter. Their burger and fries hit the spot!

Which burger can I have, Dad?

Next up was a walk and pool time. Dean loved it!

We dyed some eggs… Dean was so excited.

The Easter bunny left a healthy surprise for Dean this morning. Lucky boy!

We went to Easter service – it was so busy we had to sit outside… Florida perks ;)

Then it was mimosa time… I mean brunch time, hehe… at La Bazenne. It’s one of our favorite restaurants here!

My delicious meal…

Followed by a Nutella crepe… It IS a holiday after all. #momseasterbasket

I cleaned the entire house (yup, even mopped the floors!), prepped some healthy ways for the week, did laundry, and organize Dean’s daycare food/clothes the rest of today. I feel ready for Monday.

Oh, and Day 1 is TOMORROW! Can’t wait to get these muscles poppin’ again and lose my Easter candy (and wine haha) bloat.

How was your Easter?

I think the past month went faster than any other so far!

Dean has become a lot more independent this month even though he is going through a separation anxiety stage. I realize that sentence makes no sense, ha! He loves playing independently and he is definitely into exploring at home away from mom and dad. He is comfortable crawling into another room away from us BUT when I try to leave or say goodbye, he doesn’t like it at all. #mamasboy ;) He’s such a little stinker – He’ll be sad I’m leaving so I pick him up for one last hug and he’ll stop crying and give us the biggest cheesy grin EVER. It’s pretty cute… at least for now.

The transition to daycare went MUCH better than I anticipated. I think it is mainly because daycare is on my work site so I can see him/nurse him throughout the day. The first week or two he wasn’t sure what to think, but now I bring him in the morning, he wiggles to get down and immediately crawls to play with his favorite toys and friends. Man, so much for mom being a favorite, LOL! He did get one cold the first week of daycare – as did I so I’m not sure if it was from daycare or our plane ride/travels to Colorado – but other than that he’s been the same ol’ healthy Deany (knock on wood). I typically nurse him 1-2x/day at daycare and he takes 1-2 bottles/day depending on my meeting/class schedule.

Over the last week or so, food has become A LOT more appealing to him! Thank goodness! He is a little carb man and loves everything to do with carby foods. His current favorites are Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies, sweet potatoes, rice, waffles with peanut butter, Cheerios, Gerber Graduates Puffs, ground turkey, and broccoli. He still only has two teeth so I think his slower than average teething is slowing down his desire to eat. Soon enough he’ll have no choice so I’m glad he’s warming up to the idea more every day.

Dean is an overall happy baby. He loves clapping and laughing and talking up a storm. He LOVES when his daddy comes home from work – He smiles and laughs and kicks his feet… and then he cries if Kyle doesn’t come say hello right away ;) He also loves Mitchell (and playing in Mitchell’s food/water bowls – ick!) and Mitchell is a good sport about it… especially when he can get food from Dean’s breakfast and dinner fun.

He’s getting better at sleeping in his crib (wahoo!) but has been loving waking up at the 4am hour the past week or so. It’s quite odd and he’s happy as a clam when he wakes up… I’m not sure if it is teething waking him up or the time change or what but I’m crossing my fingers he goes back to the 7am hour soon!

Dean is a total cuddle bug and loves affection and attention… unless he wants to be a movin’ and a groovin’. He loves car rides as well as riding in grocery carts <– he holds on and sits straight up, cheesing at everyone in sight! He also loves singing the Iowa State and Chicago Bears songs with his dad. One of his favorite things to do during the day is to watch fitness classes at the gym. I can’t make this stuff up! He loves bouncing to the music and watching people workout. Everyone at the gym knows him and they always tell me when they see him on his daily buggy rides.

We have a socialite on our hands… Dean is Mr. Social!! He loves talking to new people and will give almost anyone the biggest smile and clap. I am scared that I am going to have the child that gets in trouble for talking nonstop in school, haha.

Deany is our little love and it is so fun to watch him grow up!

Speaking of growing up… his first birthday invites are officially ordered and his birthday outfits (yes, I got more than one because I know he will spill on them) are currently in the wash. We are having his first birthday party on his actual birthday as it falls on a Saturday and I can’t wait to get more planning in the books.

Happy 10 months, Dean!

Weekending – Cyclones, limeade, and sangria!

This weekend flew by! We had almost no plans going into the weekend so it was nice to relax and catch up over the past few days.

A few things from the weekend…

Chipotle – It will always and forever have my heart.

A new ‘do. The same but shorter. I’m so boring in the hair department ;)

Cheering on the Cyclones! Sweet 16!

New kicks from Target.

The Easter bunny made me buy them ;)

The BEST Spark flavor EVER. I hope Advo makes limeade permanent because I love it more than fruit punch… and that’s sayin’ a lot!  Kyle and I opened a bottle of rose on Friday and didn’t care for it too much. You know what happens to “bad” wine? It turns into sangria! Yum, yum, yum!

Sunday lunch.

Finally put together Dean’s water table his Aunt Laura gifted him for Christmas.

Checking out the Naples Art Festival on 5th Avenue.

I found Dean’s Easter outfit.

Andddd the Easter basket is done and done… Mostly by the grandma’s ;) I – I mean the Easter bunny – contributed the pacis and snacks.

How was your weekend? What are your plans for Easter?

Friday Favorites

Hey there – Happy FriYAY!

How was your St. Patrick’s Day? There was a lot of green here in Naples. It’s spring break so all of the kiddos in the school program as well as Deany’s daycare had a little parade through the gym. It was ADORABLE.

But, it is Friday, right? Let’s talk some favorites from the week!

Dean’s first “art” project. How cute is this?! I’m most definitely partial since he is my child but I love that they do these projects in daycare. I’m sure the babies hated doing footprints but the outcome is worth it, haha ;)

Since Dean is officially 10 months old, I’ve started his first birthday party planning! We have a theme and I’ve found invitations, decorations, a few outfits, and I plan on making his cake/cupcakes. I just need to work on the guest list and the menu!

Cyclone basketball! Iowa State played in the tournament yesterday and while I can’t say I watched the game super closely, it was fun to cheer for my team.

New Spark! I ordered this flavor as soon as it was released on Wednesday and cannot wait to try it. I love all things lime so limeade better live up to my expectations, LOL. #nopressure

I finally checked out the new grocery store in Naples, Lucky’s Market. It is a long drive from where we live and it is basically a mini Whole Foods. They have an awesome selection and prices are fairly reasonable. They also have $2 draft beer/$3 wine you can purchase and enjoy while shopping… Not that that sways my opinion of the store at all ;)

I picked up a new snack favorite for Dean there too… Cheddar Bunnies! He loves ‘em.

I’m looking forward to another chill weekend in Naples. I’m getting my hair did this afternoon (it’s been FOREVER…) and I would love to fit in a run, a family bike ride, and some relaxing.

Whatcha up to this weekend?

Linking up with Katie and Heather this lovely Friday!

Why I love MLMs

I was thinking over the weekend. I was thinking about the types of products and businesses I love and support when I realized that I LOVE and SUPPORT many companies that are considered to be “MLMs” – Multi-level marketing, direct sales business model, network marketing… Whatever your preferred terminology may be.

My last post professed my love for Rodan + Fields. I obviously am obsessed with all things AdvoCare (#sparkhead4life). I recently held an Usborne Books party. I use Younique cosmetics. My house smells of delicious Scentsy scents. I diffuse my Young Living oils weekly. I show off my Stella & Dot jewelry when Kyle and I go on a date night.

And the list goes on.

I wasn’t lying when I said I LOVE MLMs ;)

Since direct sales tends to get a bad rap, I thought I would share the reasons why I choose to support my favorite companies that just so happen to be part of the direct sales business model.

  1. The products ROCK. I do my research before I buy anything (I like to know what I’m putting in/on my body, where my products are made, if the organization supports any charities, etc.) and direct sales companies – at least most of them – offer high quality products!
  2. I like – and honestly prefer to – support my friends when I am spending money. If I know I am going to receive quality products AND I can financially support a friend in the process, why wouldn’t I want to purchase from an MLM?
  3. They offer great opportunities to make a “Plan B” income. Sure, some people “make it big” (or whatever you want to say) with direct sales but from my observations, most people involved just want to make a few extra bucks per month to pay off student loans (ahem, me!), save for their child’s education, build up a vacation or emergency fund, or have some extra spending money. It’s not an easy business model, but if you put in the work, the extra $100, $500, $1,500 per month can really help you move toward a debt-free life… or whatever your financial goal may be.
  4. They allow their members to make some fabulous friends along the way. Sure, you could say this about any organization or club or workplace, but – again from my own observations, the friends that are made in this business model are lifelong! I’ve met more individuals that hold similar beliefs, goals, and aspirations to mine since I’ve been involved with AdvoCare than I have in any other organization I have been a part of in my life.
  5. They’re fun and they help people. Life isn’t fun if you take yourself too seriously, right? For me, direct sales isn’t about bringing in a big fat check or earning a vacation or earning a promotion… Not at all – If it were, I think I would be setting myself up for disappointment, LOL. For me, direct sales (specifically AdvoCare because that is where I have my experience) is about helping others. I like helping people on my team. I like helping people looking to improve their personal health – whether it is for weight loss, fitness performance, or energy. I like receiving text messages about how AdvoCare allowed a friend to push herself harder in last weekend’s marathon or how a new mom now has the energy to care for her newborn AND her active toddler or how the income a friend earned last month allowed her to finally pay off her car loan. I get the happy feels. I just like helping people!

While all of the above are reasons I absolutely believe in the direct sales business model, I’ll be the first to admit that some direct sales “marketing techniques” are more than annoying. I’m not going to go into specific details, but honestly, I think the techniques that annoy us all say more about individual distributor than the company as a whole. Maybe it is just me, but the last thing I would ever want to do is pester and annoy my friends until they no longer want to be my friends ;)

I am personally quite thankful for the opportunity I’ve found within direct sales and will PROUDLY support all of the companies (and in turn, my friends!) I listed above.

Incredible products, fantastic people, and an amazing opportunity… what’s not to love?!

Tell me your thoughts on direct sales – I’m curious to what y’all think!

Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Review

I have mentioned the new facial care routine I’ve been using a few times now and have decided that it is finally time to share a review. I wanted to wait to share until I had used the products for a fair amount of time and now that it has been almost 60 days, I’m ready to tell the world! ;)

Before I get started, I want to clarify that I am not a Rodan + Fields consultant nor am I getting paid to publish this post. I like to share reviews because I love to search for them prior to purchasing new-to-me products.

My friend, Hailey, approached me about trying Rodan + Fields last fall. I had heard of R+F (I also had used Proactiv in college and LOVED it!! I believe it is made by the same dermatologists.), but didn’t know much about their products or lines of facial care. After taking the Solution Tool questionnaire, which asks you about your skin type including problem areas and focuses, it directed me to the REDEFINE regimen.

Rodan and Fields

Ah yes… I AM focusing on minimizing the aging of my skin so it makes sense that R+F would recommend the line that aids in reducing the appearance of lines and pores, as well as focuses on a loss of firmness. Aging skin is not fun and I was more than ready to start a new routine that would help me keeping young(ish) for years to come!

Per the R+F website, REDEFINE is a comprehensive skincare regimen that layers cosmetic ingredients and proven peptide technology to help defend against and reduce the visible signs of aging for noticeably firmer, smoother, flawless-looking skin. The REDEFINE Regimen features four full-size products: Daily Cleansing Mask, Pore Minimizing Toner, Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30, and Overnight Restorative Cream.

Here is a link to the comprehensive skincare regimen that I am using – It includes all four of the products listed above.

In addition to the four products listed above, I am also using REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream as well as the REDEFINE Lip Renewing Serum (when I remember… I’m not good at remembering the lip one!). Once I am done nursing (2 months and counting, ha), I will be adding in the REDEFINE Night Renewing Serum <– I LOVE this one but it does contain retinol and I’m overly cautious with retinol right now.

I’ll admit that at first I was slightly intimidated by the products… FOUR products to use everyyyy single day?! Wouldn’t that take me at least 2 hours? Who has time for that? Thankfully, my “fears” were squashed when I developed an easy and quick method that works well for me. I apply the Daily Cleansing Mask in the morning while brushing my teeth and then quickly swab my face with the Pore Minimizing Toner. It dries super fast and then I apply my Multi-Function Eye Cream followed by the Triple Defense Treatment SPF 30. Easy peasy! At night, I follow the same routine except I apply the Overnight Restorative Cream rather than the SPF ;)

I definitely love that the night cream is labeled with a big “PM” on the lid so I don’t have to read the bottles before I’m fully awake. I wash my face before mixing up my Spark, LOL!

I didn’t get around to taking before photos (I am awful at remembering that sort of thing…) but I can say that my pores have never been cleaner! And I think they are shrinking too – That was most definitely a goal of mine when i began using these products! My skin feels incredible smooth as well and I think I look “refreshed” every morning when I wake up. I don’t spend hours staring at my wrinkles in the mirror so I can’t say if they’ve disappeared at all, but I do think now that I have a daily SPF in my routine, I will definitely slow the creation of any new wrinkles.

Ever since Dean was born, my skin has been incredibly blah-looking, for lack of a better description, and I’m so happy to have found a line of skincare that allows me to look better and feel more confident without makeup… Because I rarely wear makeup with my job as both a mama and at the gym.

Oh! And before I forget, I wanted to also mention that I did sign up as a preferred customer in order to save myself some moolah – 10% off R+F products AND free shipping. I was cautious at first because being a preferred customer does require product purchases/shipments every 60 days. Thankfully my consultant, Hailey, is absolutely incredible and is able to push back my shipments an extra 30-60 days based on when/if I need product.

I HIGHLY recommend R+F to anyone looking for a skincare solution. I love everything about the REDEFINE line (the smell, the feel, the ease, the results!) and know you can find a regimen you will love as well. I am certain Hailey would be more than happy to chat with you about the products as well if you have more specific questions!

What facial care products do you use? Have you ever tried R+F?

Weekending – A birthday, owl wine, and pickles!

Happy Sunday! How was your weekend?

Shockingly enough, the time change didn’t throw us off too much. Dean let us sleep until “7:30” (really 6:30 LOL) and I was successful at putting him down at 7 tonight! Fingers crossed ;)

Anyways, enough about DST and more about the weekend!

It was a nice and relaxing one for us… Nothing crazy here in Naples. Here’s what we were up to…

Friday kicked off with a sweaty spin class!

And then ended with some relaxing at home with one of my new favorite red wines. Cute, organic and delish.

I have wanted to run to the beach for a few months now and I FINALLY made it happen Saturday morning. 6.25 miles of perfection… and a gorgeous view at the end. I’m pretty proud of my (mostly) negative splits as well!

Kyle and Dean met me after my run and we picked up Kyle’s newly dad-pimped bike ;) First family bike ride is happening as soon as we get Dean a helmet! Any suggestions on baby bike helmets?

Anddd… Saturday was Mitchell’s 10th birthday! Happy birthday, Mitchell!!!! He got 2 super long walks, extra treats, and lotsa love.

We went out for lunch on Saturday and Dean discovered his love of pickles, haha!

Then it was time to stock up on vino…

And practice our walking.

Kyle whipped up some delicious risotto on Saturday night while I had a drink with the birthday boy.

On Sunday morning, we had a belated birthday party for Mitchell at the beach! He played with his doggie friends and chased after the ball and enjoyed a good swim until he was exhausted.

I taught BODYPUMP and then we relaxed as a family – made dinner, played, went for a long walk… Sunday stuff :)

I am most definitely ready for the week ahead!

How was your weekend? Best meal of the weekend? Any good runs/races?

My favorite things about being a mom

Motherhood isn’t always butterflies and rainbows, if you think it is, you’ve probably never cared for a human under the age of 5 before… ;) Even though there can be rough patches, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite things about being a new mama today. There are a few things that always put a smile on my face and make all of the hard work worth it.

Baby smiles. Gahhh… the cutest things ever! My favorite smiles come first thing in the morning (Hi Mom, I’m ready to play!) and the smiles after he’s done something naughty… Like yesterday when he took all of the books off of his bookshelf and played in Mitchell’s water bowl.

Watching them learn new things. Everything is new to babies and it is so much fun to see them discovering their world. New tastes and smells and objects to grab… It puts a smile on my face watching Dean flip through a new book or babble to his new toy elephant or make a funny face when he tries a new food <– I smile until I have to clean the food off of him and/or the floor!

Everyone is ridiculously nice to you. Maybe it’s just here in Naples, but ever since Deany entered the world, people seem to bend over backwards for me. I rarely have to open a door. People will pull out a cart for me at Target. I have long conversations with people about babies at the grocery store. Restaurant staff help entertain Dean while we are out. The list goes on… I am so thankful for everyone’s kind gestures during this first year of Dean’s life!

Baby clothes. SOOO cute. Yep, even the boy ones. Dean has A TON of clothes but that never stops me from buying the newest outfits at Target ;)

An influx of visitors. It’s funny how that works… A baby arrives and BAM, everyone wants to visit you. It’s fun to entertain family and friends and I’d be lying if I didn’t like taking advantage of the free babysitting that comes along with it.

Growing up. I know a lot of moms tend to get sad when they see their babies growing… Maybe I’m the odd one out in this but I LOVE watching Dean grow and change each day. It makes me think I’m doing an okay job and, especially during those not-so-easy times, reminds me that “this too shall pass.”

I may have to do a post on my “not so favorite” things about being a mom in the near future ;)

Mamas – What are some of your favorite things about motherhood?
