January 2, 2017 – What are YOUR goals?

2017 is right around the corner and I have one question for you. Okay, actually TWO questions for you ;)

What are YOUR health goals for 2017? And what will you be doing to improve your health on January 2, 2017?

  • Are you looking to lose a few of those holiday pounds? Or maybe, finally – once and for all, shed that baby weight? 
  • Do you want to improve your fitness game? Gain lean muscle mass? See those biceps POP?
  • What about your energy? Is one of your health focuses for the new year to have the same amount of energy you did as a teenager?
  • Eat healthier? Be more active? Feel fantastic inside and out? Fulfill something that is missing in your life?

New Aqua Zinger and Weekly Health Goals

Hi! Happy Sunday :)

I hope you have all been having fantastic weekends! To be honest, ours has been a little lame so far which I am totally okay with. We rented a movie on Friday night and then I finished The Host (so good!) while Kyle watched the NFL Playoff games last night. I think we’ve officially hit old age :/

I only had 10 things that I wanted needed to get done this weekend and, as you can see, I have made a lot of progress. Yay for productive – albeit lame – weekends!

  1. GET BETTER! – In progress… I have a weird sneezing/cold thing going on now but it’s SO much better than the flu I had last week!
  2. Run a few errands (grocery store and Target) – Check!
  3. Complete two easy elliptical workouts – 1/2 Check!
  4. Bake – In Progress!
  5. See Promised Land – Maybe this afternoon!
  6. Work on a guest post I have coming up in late February/early March – Hopefully tonight :)
  7. Hit up the drycleaners – Check!
  8. Shop for my Foodie Pen Pal :) – Check! (And more to come on this at the end of the month!!)
  9. Stop by the Mills’ City Winter Farmers’ Market – Check! Kyle even bought some delicious macaroons :)
  10. Buy a new computer – FINALLY Check!

Aquazinger 1

Check out this awesome birthday gift (Laura is super on top of things… my birthday isn’t for 2 more weeks!) I got from my sister and her husband last week – an Aqua Zinger! They also gave me a pair of lifting gloves – The calluses I’m forming from CrossFit are not suitable for my lady-like hands ;)

I added the Aqua Zinger to my Amazon Wish List for a few reasons:

  1. I love water.
  2. I love flavored water.
  3. I hate the additives and sugar and who knows what that typically come with flavored water.

Basically, you put whatever fruit you desire in the bottom of the cup and then insert the mesh chopper. This mashes the fruit but doesn’t allow pulp or seeds to enter your water. Next you fill the water bottle up with water and voila! Tasty water! 

Right now I’m drinking lemon-infused water. I bought some blueberries and strawberries for this week and I can’t wait until watermelon and basil come back into season – watermelon-basil-infused water sounds heavenly!

Aquazinger 2

Since I didn’t cook ANYTHING last week, my meal plan looks really similar to my last weekly goals post :) I definitely saved a lot of money on groceries this week! My overall health goal this week is to continue to get 100% better. I don’t want to push myself too hard with exercise and I need to get a lot of sleep (this is per usual though!) so that I don’t catch all of the flu viruses that are circulating my office. I am really missing CrossFit since I haven’t been since last Saturday and even though I am still paying for the time that I am missing (ugh…), I know that it is the best decision for my health.

I Can Ski!! And My Final 2012 Weekly Health Goals

Hi friends! I hope you are all having awesome weekends!

Kyle and I are on our way back to Chicago after a long weekend of skiing and snowboarding in Utah. On Friday morning, I wasn’t too hopeful or excited about skiing but after a lesson from a certified trainer, I gained a huge amount of confidence! The two best pieces of advice David, my trainer, gave me were: 1) to look ahead at where I want to go. I have a bad habit of looking directly down at my skis which causes skiers to crash… And 2) to lean forward in an athletic stance. I got the athletic stance down right away (thanks CrossFit!) and after I realized that leaning forward actually helped me gain control of my speed and direction, I got the hang of skiing! I had the biggest smile on my face after I made it down my first hill :)

I ended up going down the mountain 4 times Friday afternoon after my lesson and 9 times Saturday morning. I would have gone back out Saturday afternoon but my legs were shaky and worn out and I didn’t want to risk losing control and rolling down the entire side of the mountain :)

If you are ever in Utah and are looking for a fun place to ski, I totally recommend Solitude Mountain Resort. There were hardly ANY lines for the ski lifts, the trainers for the ski academy were great and super informative and the powder was outrageous!

I received a lot of comments and emails after my last post about how a lot of you are just as terrified of skiing as I was (yep, WAS!!) before this trip. I am still a novice skier but the best piece of advice I can give you is to take lessons and to continue to practice. I went down the same green 13 times and, before that, the bunny hill probably 15 times and was finally gaining confidence toward the end of the weekend. I really used my trainer’s advice and repeated “Look and Lean” to myself while I was skiing down the mountain. Also, don’t let anyone else talk you into going on a hill you aren’t comfortable with. This is when you have a higher probability of falling, losing the confidence you’ve gained and increasing the potential of injuring yourself! Seriously, if I can ski in Utah, ANYONE can ski in Utah :)

Since this is another holiday week, my health goals and meal planning aren’t going to be as good as I would like them to be. I’m going to focus on continuing to be active since I know I’ll be eating some not-so-healthy foods in the coming days (Like the pizza I am going to order at 1am on January 1st! Haha ;) ).

Overall Weekly Health Goal

Get back on track in 2013! Check out my 2013 New Year’s resolutions I made about a week ago. To be honest, I haven’t really fallen off track in the last few weeks of 2012. I have definitely eaten more than I typically would because of traveling but I have also been ridiculously active – I’ve made it to my mother-in-law’s gym everyday in Chicago plus skiing is a killer workout! I’m excited to go home Tuesday night and to start cooking healthy and delicious meals and to get back on a regular fitness routine.
