Friday Favorites

Hey there – Happy FriYAY!

How was your St. Patrick’s Day? There was a lot of green here in Naples. It’s spring break so all of the kiddos in the school program as well as Deany’s daycare had a little parade through the gym. It was ADORABLE.

But, it is Friday, right? Let’s talk some favorites from the week!

Dean’s first “art” project. How cute is this?! I’m most definitely partial since he is my child but I love that they do these projects in daycare. I’m sure the babies hated doing footprints but the outcome is worth it, haha ;)

Since Dean is officially 10 months old, I’ve started his first birthday party planning! We have a theme and I’ve found invitations, decorations, a few outfits, and I plan on making his cake/cupcakes. I just need to work on the guest list and the menu!

Cyclone basketball! Iowa State played in the tournament yesterday and while I can’t say I watched the game super closely, it was fun to cheer for my team.

New Spark! I ordered this flavor as soon as it was released on Wednesday and cannot wait to try it. I love all things lime so limeade better live up to my expectations, LOL. #nopressure

I finally checked out the new grocery store in Naples, Lucky’s Market. It is a long drive from where we live and it is basically a mini Whole Foods. They have an awesome selection and prices are fairly reasonable. They also have $2 draft beer/$3 wine you can purchase and enjoy while shopping… Not that that sways my opinion of the store at all ;)

I picked up a new snack favorite for Dean there too… Cheddar Bunnies! He loves ‘em.

I’m looking forward to another chill weekend in Naples. I’m getting my hair did this afternoon (it’s been FOREVER…) and I would love to fit in a run, a family bike ride, and some relaxing.

Whatcha up to this weekend?

Linking up with Katie and Heather this lovely Friday!

Weekending

Sunday night again? Weekends do like to fly by, don’t they?

It was another low-key weekend here in Naples and I only have a few photos to show for it… Mainly because there was A LOT of basketball watching involved. And by watching, I mean Kyle watched while I played on my phone ;)

How ’bout them Cyclones?! They had nail-biter games all weekend and pulled out a win against Kansas last night to claim the Big 12 Championship title for the second year in a row.

You had some proud Iowa State alumni down here in Naples!

So, what did we do the rest of the weekend?

Yoga for Friday happy hour.

Thai takeout for Friday night dinner. Overpriced and not the best… We are going to try to make it at home next time!

Sunday BODYPUMP – Love that my regulars always let me know that they will miss me for 6 weeks once MJ arrives <3

Sunday night dinner made by Chef Kyle – Mushroom Risotto (although apparently I didn’t get the right mushrooms?!), Wagu beef kabobs, and green beans. Would have been lovely with a glass of red!

And finally, is this anyone else’s life motto? ;)

What were you up to this weekend? Best thing you ate? Best thing you did? Favorite brand of yoga pants?

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

What a weekend!

photo 4 (58)

I have been looking forward to spending St. Patrick’s Day here in Chicago since around the time I met Kyle and found out he was from Chicago… so 7 years! Chicago knows how to do St. Patrick’s Day right and I was pumped to join in on the celebrations this year.

photo 4 (59)

My one and only goal this weekend was to see the Chicago River dyed green.

photo 5 (55)

I was successful ;)

photo 2 (69)

But the people – THE PEOPLE! There was such a crowd downtown that my phone stopped working which gave me yet another reason to hate Verizon… ;)

For the rest of my weekend…

photo 1 (70)

Friday started with a walk for Mr. Mitchell while it was still halfway warm outside.

Then a trip to Haymarket Brewery to watch the first Cyclone win of the weekend.

Saturday started with an early morning treadmill 5k…

Pretzel necklace making by Kyle…

And wearing my Iowish t-shirt ;)

Then the green river!! {Who’s going to visit me for St. Pat’s next year?!}

photo 3 (66)

Instead of pushing our way into crowded bars full of intoxicated patrons (I sound so old typing that…), we visited a few friends’ houses for brunch, drinks mimosas and green beer, snacks (Kyle loved the bacon-wrapped wieners!), card games and fun. Thankfully, it was relatively nice on Saturday so walking outside didn’t freeze our toes.

photo 2 (67)

We came home around 6pm, made burgers and fries (so Irish…) and decided to watch the Iowa State game at home rather than making our way to the – likely crowded – Iowa State bar in Old Town.

AND THE CYCLONES WON AGAIN!! Hello NCAA Tournament! Because of this win… I need this shirt… Just sayin’ ;)

ISU Coach

I fell asleep early (before the game was over…) so I woke up bright and early Sunday morning, just in time for Body Pump at my gym!

photo 4 (60)

The rest of today has been quite lazy, even Mitchell is soaking it up.

photo 3 (67)

I finally convinced myself to brave the post-holiday traffic to get my weekly Trader Joe’s haul. I don’t think anyone in the city of Chicago did anything besides day drink yesterday so everywhere was CRAZY.

photo 2 (68)

Thankfully, I made it out of Trader Joe’s unscathed and found a new-to-me treat for the traffic jammed-drive home. They’re definitely a winner.

photo 1 (69)

I anticipate more laziness tonight with bouts of reading and working thrown in. Oh and beginning to research charities for the Chicago Marathon (yikes!)… I am going to run for charity this fall so I need to start fundraising soon!

And that’s a wrap! Happy REAL St. Patrick’s Day {tomorrow}!!

What did you do this weekend? Does your city celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? What is your most recent Trader Joe’s find?

Kansas City Weekend

Hello, hello!

After a super quick trip – we’re talking a day and a half – to Kansas City for a girls’ weekend, I’m happy to be back in Chicago getting ready for the week ahead. Once a year (twice if we count our annual tailgate!), my sorority girlfriends (G Phi B!) and I get together for a fun girls’ weekend.

Since a few of my girlfriends live near Kansas City, we decided to make the trek south this year :) And even though everyone couldn’t join, it was great to spend time together reminiscing about our college days.

Since I’m super tired from all of the fun, I’m going to share the weekend through photos and a few words here and there.

Saturday morning spa appointment, Dutch Tulips by OPI – A requirement of girls’ weekend!

It was a bit chilly walking without jackets…

FREEZING

Watching the Iowa State basketball game with pizza and beer. I took a bit of a break from my Mini Challenge this weekend ;)

ISU girls

HUGE bottles of champagne and Skinny Pop – The cheddar flavor is ah-maz-ing!

Shopping – LOTS of shopping. The Plaza is my new BFF.

Gettin’ fancy for a dinner out – Another Rent The Runway win!

LBD night out

Italian food at Accurso’s that was just okay. Same goes for the wine. I’d definitely pass on this restaurant on my next KC visit.

We’re now old and lame so instead of going out Saturday night, we enjoyed cheesecake and wine at the hotel. THIS is what girlfriends are for :)

Pre-flight breakfast of a Panera French toast bagel for the win!

And now it’s time for sleep (and fruits and vegetables…) since I think I got about 8 hours all weekend ;)

What were you up to this weekend? Have you ever visited Kansas City?

Trader Joe’s, B-Dubs and My Weekly Health Goals

**Calling all Minnesota bloggers! Katie from Running4Cupcakes and I are planning a fun Minnesota blogger gathering for April in Minneapolis! Contact either Katie or myself and follow us on Twitter for updates! Melanie, Diana, Azia and Taylor have already decided to join in on the fun!**

Hi there! Happy Sunday :)

It is cold and rainy here in Minneapolis today. Unless it warms up a little bit it looks like there will be no outdoor run for me this weekend :/ Next Saturday, Kyle and I are running the Minneapolis Get Lucky 7K so I really want to get one or two final outdoor runs in before the race. Now that Daylight Savings Time is here, maybe I’ll be able to get them in after work this week!

Anyways, because it looks like there will be no run in my future – at least for this morning, Kyle and I are heading out to grab Dim Sum for brunch. Dim Sum, Chinese breakfast dumplings, is Kyle’s favorite breakfast food. We are checking out a new-to-us place in Minneapolis this morning, hopefully it is good!

How has your weekend been so far? I had ZERO plans this weekend (except for dinner last night) which has proven to be amazing. I have the tendency of overscheduling myself so it is nice to just sit back and go with the flow some weekends :) Friday night, Kyle and I stayed in, cooked frozen pizza – which was delicious by the way, so don’t judge! – and enjoyed a bottle of red wine. Since we didn’t have a wild and crazy Friday night, I woke up early on Saturday and hit up an 8am Yoga Sculpt class at CorePower Yoga. Yoga Sculpt is one of the best workouts I have found in the Twin Cities. If you have a CorePower studio near you, I recommend checking it out!

Yoga

After yoga, I did a 40-minute elliptical workout – beach bod, here I come! – and then got ready to go to Buffalo Wild Wings (B-Dubs) to watch the Iowa State game. Unfortunately, B-Dubs doesn’t carry the Big 12 Network (umm… aren’t you a sports bar???!) so Kyle and I had to watch other basketball games.

Sparkly Toms

Next, I hit up Trader Joe’s in my sparkly Tom’s to pick up a few ingredients for dinners this week. Since I walked out of TJ’s only spending $40, I had to indulged in a bottle of Trader Joe’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Some things are just meant to be… like cheap grocery bills = a wine purchase. It is a no brainer ;)

Last night, we met Kyle’s mentor and his wife for dinner at Union. Yes, my husband has a career mentor and I think it is awesome. He was formerly his boss but left the company about a year ago for a position elsewhere. A few times per year, we make it a point to go to dinner or brunch or to play tennis with him and his wife.

Kyle and I had been to Union beforeonce for dinner and once for lunch – luckily, they are always changing their menu so we had plenty of new things to choose from! We both enjoyed amazing drinks – Hibiscus 75 for me and MsMn for Kyle – had great conversation and delicious dinners. If you have the chance to visit Union, I highly recommend their pumpkin tortellini or their scallops with potato perogies.

In other news…

9 days until I’m off to gorgeous Puerto Rico! There was a lot of talk about the island last night at dinner so now, I am even MORE excited! There will be lots of fitness and healthy eats here in the ONW household this coming week. Luckily, my husband is amazing and while I am critiquing every part of my body that I think needs to be altered prior to putting on a bikini, Kyle continues to tell me that my body is perfect and I have nothing to worry about. I knew I put up with his dirty socks, shoes and other random messy and disgusting guy things scattered about the condo for a reason ;)

Without further ado – and also because Kyle is in desperate need of Dim Sum – here are my weekly meal and fitness plans!
