#104 Treat Yourself Tuesday

After a little break last week, I’m back for our weekly Tuesday treats! Lotsa treatin’ happened while I was in Chicago and I’m excited to share it with y’all.

Treat Yourself Tuesday Badge

First of all, a little break from the bloggin’ world. As much as I love it, this was the first blog “vacay” I’ve taken since I began writing in 2012 – say what?!?! It was about time for a little separation. Plus, as odd as it sounds, I honestly didn’t have time to turn on a computer while we were in Chicago. We were BUSY 24/7 and it was nice to live in real time rather than blog time :)

A little mani-pedi action with my Chicago BFF Nicole. I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t gotten my nails done since the week before Mr. Dean arrived. Yipes! On Friday night, Nicole and I enjoyed some vino and a little spa treatment. It was much needed and nice to catch up with her.

Nights out with friends – We had a few of these while on vacation and it was so nice to see everyone AND have a few kid-free nights out. (Although they still make me a bit anxious, ha!) We hit up a bar (I can’t remember the name…) on Saturday night with a group of friends and on Thursday evening we made it to The Hampton Social, a new bar in our old Chicago neighborhood, for a late night happy hour with friends. It was fun but man was I ever tired the next day. I’m not used to staying out late these days!

Touring Dean around Chicago. It was really fun to show him where we used to live and the places we used to hang out. While he obviously won’t remember a thing, we have the pictures to prove it ;) I shared our Wrigleyville adventure yesterday and stay tuned for more Chicago recaps later this week!

My first race in a year! I ran with my friends Amy and Erica and it was a blast even though I got a total of 4 hours of sleep the night before… Expect a fun recap on the race as well later this week or next. Oh! And we all grabbed brunch at Little Goat (one of my favvvvvv places to eat in Chicago) post-run. It was definitely delish!

SO. MUCH. DELICIOUS. FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Chicago has the best eats, y’all! I could go on and on and on about everything I ate. But to save you from boredom, I’ll incorporate my eats in my Chicago adventure posts in a few days :)

Wearing makeup and dressing like an adult more than once! Wahoo! It was nice to get some use out of my “real person” clothes again ;) I wore a few of my Le Tote items as well throughout the week.

Now your turn, link up and let me know how you treated yourself over the past week!

What is your favorite place to eat in Chicago or in your city? Last time you had a manicure?

Live music, 22k steps, Patio season & Other weekend fun!

Happy Sunday!

How has your weekend been so far? It has been a great – dare I say, summery weekend here in Chicago!

On Friday, I enjoyed lunch in Millenium Park and these little guys thought they wanted some of my Chipotle ;)

Music Collage

Kyle and I enjoyed dinner and live music with his parents on Friday night.

The obligatory Friday night bathroom selfie ;)

I somehow navigated an Italian restaurant during my challenge – Broiled lemon salmon and clams atop sauteed spinach for the delicious win!

photo 4 (3)

Saturday called for an early morning family walk…

photo 3 (4)

… followed by body pump in my new Team Paws tank! Next up was brunch because girlfrand was starvingggggg! Kyle and I set out without a location in mind and walked and walked and walked some more (22k steps to be exact!) until we came upon Beatrix. It most definitely exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it if you happen to be in Chicago!

Green power juice for her and a chocolate chai latte for him :)

Brunch was Mexican-themed – Shredded chicken, salsa, sunny eggs, and avocado. Yum times a million and two!

photo 4 (2)

Naptime (needed after walking and brunch!) was followed by rooftop deck time in summer apparel – finally.

little goat Collage

Little Goat has a rooftop bar that opened this weekend. It has a great view of the city and it felt so good to soak up the sun! We stopped by a new-to-us wine shop, Perman Wine Selections, on our way home. The owner is young and has an incredible amount of wine knowledge – I can’t wait to stop back in for their wine tasting events and to stock up on wine, obviously ;)

photo 1 (4)

After a fun-filled day, Kyle left for the airport – he’s traveling to Brazil for work this week – and I hit up the nail salon and the grocery store for a super fun Saturday night, hehe…

Sunday morning came bright and early – it’s what happens when you let your dog sleep in your room with you!

photo 4 (69)

I fit in a walk and a 4-miler followed by a HUGE unsweetened iced tea. #treatyoself

Mitchell Cone Man needed a bath in a bad way and I’m confident I got just as soaked as he did during the process…

After a very relaxing facial this afternoon, I arrived home to realize that I had locked myself out. Super convenient, especially since Kyle’s gone! Thankfully, the maintenance man saved the day.

In a few minutes, I’m heading to my inlaws for Passover. And yes, in case you were wondering, I will be having some matzo ball soup regardless of my 24DC ;)

Tell me what you did this weekend!

Have you ever locked yourself out of your apartment/house?

Weekend Fun – Hello Tacos, Fat Elvis & It’s March?

Happy Sunday! I hope you’re busy enjoying your weekend :)

photo 4 (51)

It’s been a busy weekend here in Chicago – lots of errands and eating (always eating… ;) ) and relaxing and catching up with the ol’ blog. Believe it or not, I actually have a Jamaica recap coming your way tomorrow!

photo 4 (50)

Friday started out with an afternoon monster cookie because Fridays are made for cookies.

photo 3 (57)

After work, I stopped at a quick bowling happy hour before making my way home. Goose Island Green Line was enjoyed!

photo 1 (58)

Instead of going out to dinner as planned, Kyle and I made a last minute decision to stay home. Because just like Fridays are made for cookies, they are also made for drinking wine and cuddling puppies without wearing makeup or real clothes.

photo 5 (48)

Saturday morning came bright and early with a body pump class followed by track sprints.

photo 3 (58)

After some chores around the apartment, Kyle and I headed to lunch at De Cero Taqueria.

hello tacos Collage

Holy amazingness – a pineapple-jalapeno margarita with chips ‘n salsa and shrimp, al pastor and duck confit tacos. If you’re ever in Chicago, go here! #hellotacos

After lunch came nap time because margaritas make mama sleeeeepy ;)

photo 3 (59)

Kyle had tickets to the outdoor Blackhawks game on Saturday night and since he knew I would not want to stand outside in the freezing temps and snow, he gave my ticket to his dad. Smart decision, Kyle ;)

photo 2 (60)

While they were freezing their behinds, I enjoyed a spa afternoon with my MIL. It was most definitely a fair trade!

photo 1 (60)

I ran a few errands – TJ’s, Whole Foods and Target – on my way home and enjoyed the rest of the evening on the sofa with Mitchell. A perfectly quiet Saturday night!

photo 1 (61)

Per the usual, Kyle and I woke up early this morning and decided to take a snowy hike to brunch at Little Goat instead of the gym. Sunday mornings should be for brunching – gym dates can come in the evening!

Brunch Selfie Collage

Pre-brunch selfies – sporting my wishbone necklace from two of my favorites :)

Little Goat Brunch Collage

Fat Elvis Waffle for him. Chickpea, Kale, Chicken & Falafel Salad for her. He most definitely won brunch – look at that waffle!

The rest of today is going to be spent attending an open house (what the wha?!?), eating (theme of the weekend…), hitting up the gym, food prepping and watching The Oscars. A perfect Sunday plan!

What did you do this weekend? What is your food of choice when it comes to brunch?

#50shadesofblends – RECAP

Okay, this recap is for realz this time. I promise <3

Part of the reason this post took me forever to compose is because I really just don’t know where to start. The five of us had SO much fun this weekend, it’s hard to put it all into one post!

However, I know y’all want to hear about it so here goes!

Friday afternoon, the ladies arrived – Sara got into town first and stopped by my apartment before we headed to the hotel. She was able to meet my two boys (Kyle and Mitchell) before we hailed a cab down to Lakeshore Drive. Her arriving early was a blessing in disguise as she helped me lug by bag full o’ wine and snacks down to the cab and into the hotel room ;)

A little while later Carly and Katie arrived!!!! I saw them last in Napa back in July and I shrieked like a sorority sista when they knocked on the hotel room door. THEN, a little while later Alisha made her way to Chicago! Wahoo! We had never met Alisha before but she is just as crazy sweet and pretty and great at doing makeup and twerking yoga as she portrays in her blog. (P.S. Do y’all non-bloggers think it’s strange that the only reason this girls’ weekend existed was because of this little bloggity blog? Gosh I just love it!)

photo 1 (2)

After drinking a few (ahem…) bottles of vino and prettying ourselves for an evening out on the town, we headed to The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. I knew I had to take the girls there because the views are incredible even if you feel like you might fall to the ground when you look over the edge ;)

photo 2 (2)

By this time it was around 10pm and time for dinner… and by dinner I mean snack because for some reason we decided it would be a good idea to order a few small plates at a sushi restaurant to “save room” for pizza later in the evening. And by pizza I mean beer and drinks ;)

photo 2 (1)

We visited a few establishments in Old Town and attracted more than a few men. Seriously, what is it that draws men to a group of women out on a girls’ night? I mean we’re all pretty fantastic if I do say so myself but –  and I’m not kidding here – at one point in the night a guy gave me his debit card AND PIN NUMBER and told me to take cash out and get whatever I wanted.

Ummm…. okay? He’s just lucky I didn’t place a $2000 J. Crew order ;)

After some dancing and drinking and shenanigans we arrived home at the hotel to order that pizza we saved room for back at dinner. A slice or two later I hailed a cab back home and loudly pranced into my apartment, waking Kyle up at 5am. Gosh, he’s a lucky guy – haha!

photo 4 (1)

Needless to say, Saturday morning came around much too early. Kyle took me out for a Bloody Mary <– hair of the dog, definitely needed… and then we met up with the gals in Wrigleyville to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes football game. (This is actually against my religion – GO CLONES! – but I obliged since Alisha was my guest and she’s a fan…)

photo 5 (1)

photo 1

We drank and ate (theme of the weekend!) and then started our trek to Whole Foods a few miles away. On the way we came across this European-style cafe that had sinfully good waffles with things like crunchy Nutella and Bailey’s spiked whipped cream. Who were we to say no?

photo 3 (2)

From there we made it to Whole Foods – aka my Mecca, cue the angelic singing – so Alisha could experience the wonder of all wonders for the first time. #TWSS

{By the way, if you want to stalk me, I’ll be there Saturday evening shopping my little heart out while sipping on wine <3 Yes, you can drink wine while walking around this Whole Foods!}

photo 4

A few hours later snacking on cheese and bread and olives and wine (duh!) along with some wall twerking and makeup lessons occurred before an evening out.

photo 4 (3)

I sadly called it an early night – my body seriously can’t handle a few hours of sleep anymore and it felt like it was falling apart.  I came home, put on my Bears’ sweats and cuddled Mitchell. {Warning, pathetic-faced selfie below!}

photo 5 (2)

The next morning I woke up bright and early feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world… the girls were feeling the opposite ;) Katie, Carly, Alisha and I (Sara left early in the morning to head back to Kentucky) met for brunch at Little Goat. Seriously this place is amazing, the wait is crazy long because it is so popular, but it is worth it!

photo 3

I ordered a burger and fries (naturally…) for brunch and we all split a HUGE cinnabon that Carly ordered for the table. Yum, yum and MORE yum. Love that place. If you’re curious, yes, it is owned by the same owner as Girl & The Goat but GATG isn’t open for brunch and has a 3-month wait to get in for dinner.

photo (35)

Once our bellies were full, I showed the girls my apartment and introduced them to my main furball, Mitchell. Then it was time for some Chicago tourism!

photo 1 (3)

photo 2 (3)

We visited The Bean, walked around Millenium Park, rode a bull and took in the sights and sounds of the city. Once we were fully exhausted from walking miles upon miles upon miles, we headed back to the hotel for snacks, PIZZA and a new-to-me show, Girl Talk.

photo 3 (1)

I still had work to do on Sunday night (whomp, whomp…) so I said my goodbyes to the ladies and headed home around 7pm for the evening.

Seriously y’all, I love these girls! Every weekend I spend with them is a total and complete blast and is worth the exhaustion and detox I have to put my body through the next two weeks ;)

Make sure to check out their recaps of the #50shadesofblends reunion weekend as well!

Have you ever made friends (and met them) online? Do you find it weird that everyone seemed to ask us how we met when we were out? (This always created awkward silences on our part… errr… uhhh….. we met through our blogs?)

Another amazing blend reunion is in the books.

I had the best time with Sara and Alisha and Carly and Katie the past few days and I cannot wait to tell y’all about it! Unfortunately, today is not the day you get the dirt on our most recent weekend full of scandal and shenanigans… okay, so there wasn’t really any scandal unless consuming copious amounts of cheese and wine and pizza count as scandalous ;)

Tonight I have work to do (being totally unproductive on Friday seemed like a good idea at the time…) and sleep, dear goodness do I ever need sleep. You all will get a lovely and juicy detail-filled post on Tuesday because this weekend wast most definitely Treat Yourself Tuesday worthy.

Until then, enjoy some of the candids from the weekend :)

Yes, please ;)

Gahhh – I miss these girls already! Get excited for a ridiculous update coming your way :)

And now, tell me one scandalous thing YOU did this weekend!
