James Reilly – Newborn Photos

Doesn’t everyone love an adorable collection of newborn baby photos?

Because he’s my kid and naturally I think he’s cute, I thought I’d share James’ newborn images from his photo shoot last week.

They were taken when he was 5 days new and our photographer, Rochelle Shucart did an incredible job. She’s taken all of our professional photos since we moved to Naples and I HIGHLY recommend her if you’re searching for a Naples, Florida photographer.

Now, for the cuteness…

Burn Boot Camp {BBC} – Review

I have one day left in my 30-day Burn Boot Camp trial, so I thought today would be the perfect time to review my experience there. I’ve had enough time at Burn to get a good feel for the workouts and trainers and right now, the last month is still fresh in my totally burned-out mama brain… See what I did there?! ;)

For those that are not familiar with Burn Boot Camp, it is a female-only gym that offers high intensity workouts. No two workouts are ever the same and each workout is led by well-trained coaches.

Burn Boot Camp™ – Fit Community of Moms

My overall experience has been AWESOME! The workouts are efficient and effective and offered at multiple times to fit most schedules. The trainers are also informed and provide great coaching. That being said, I like to break down reviews into “pros” and “cons” to give everyone a full understanding of what I love and what I think could use some improvement.

Let’s start with the pros…

– The workouts! Holy moly, the workouts are QUICK (45 minutes start to finish), fun (if you like to torture yourself, LOL), and most definitely effective. I really like the fast pace, the ever-changing routines (no day is ever the same), and the focus on specific muscle groups/types of training. If you’re looking for a great workout in a group atmosphere, Burn will definitely force you to push yourself and it will provide results with fantastic workouts. The same workout is offered 8x daily each weekday and twice on Saturdays. That gives members multiple times to attend and fits almost any schedule.

– The bouncy mat. Okay, “bouncy mat” isn’t the official name of the floor, but basically Burn’s fitness floor has some bounce to it (while still being firm). The bounce makes all of the jumping they require much easier on your joints which I’m sure I’ll appreciate in my old age ;) It is covered in a carpet-like material which makes it easier on your elbows/knees during floor work.

– Child care. As a mom, any gym/fitness center that doesn’t offer a child care center is officially out of my scope. I gotta do something with the Deany while I get my fitness on. The play area has always been clean and well staffed and Dean seems to have a great time there while I workout.

– Female-only atmosphere. While this isn’t super important to me, I can see how some women prefer to workout without men. It can be intimidating and make someone self-conscious if they feel they are being watched and/or judged in a gym setting.

– Nutrition meetings. I LOVE the concept of this (although I do think they suggest calorie counts that are a bit too low). We all know that you can’t out train a bad diet and I like that they do try to coach members on good eating habits.

And now for the cons…

– Cleanliness. Let me start out by stating that I am most definitely NOT a germophobe. I work in a gym setting. I have a kid (germy little critters…). I have a dog (also germy little critters…). Germs don’t scare me and we need exposure to some germs to keep our immune systems strong. That being said, the “bouncy mat” I referred to above disgusts me when I think about how many women sweat on them daily. With the number of bootcamps offered daily, I think the mat should be cleaned at least once, if not twice, daily. A friend of mine asked and was told that the mat is only cleaned twice per week. GROSS. All of the sweaty germs residing in that mat make me cringe… Especially because my shoulders have been breaking out (and they rarely break out) non-stop since I began my trial membership. Blech!

– Product pushing. I get it, the gym needs to make a profit, but pushing products is not the way to go about that in my opinion. Before and after every class (and during their one-on-one nutrition meetings), shakes and other products are mentioned if you want to see “best results.” While they don’t force products on you, they do make you feel that if you don’t use them, you won’t see results. When I was asked about the products in my one-on-one meeting, I told them that I used AdvoCare performance products and they left me alone after that :)

– Macro counts. Burn recommends a daily macro count of 45% protein, 35% carbs, and 20% fat. While I agree that those macros WILL get you results, I absolutely do not believe they are sustainable. I find it very difficult to consume that much protein on a daily basis, and at least personally, I need a high percentage of carbs to function at my highest level. I would definitely follow that macro breakdown for a short period of time, but day-to-day? It wouldn’t be possible for me.

– The amount of jumping. While jumping/plyometrics is a GREAT way to burn a lot of calories and see results quickly, you have a gym full of women – many of which have been pregnant/given birth… Jumping is NOT a good thing. Pee happens. LOL. Think back to the germs in the bouncy mat. Gross, yes? Anyways, back to jumping. I think some jumping is good to incorporate into a workout but a warm-up or finisher of tuck jumps, jumping jacks, squat jumps, etc. is not good on the ol’ bladder. Yikes.

– Price. $150/month if you sign a 12-month contract. $175 month-to-month. Wowzers. If it weren’t for the price, I most definitely would have joined but there is no way I can justify the cost when I have access to multiple other gyms in town for free.

Like I said, I would 100% join burn regardless of the germs and jumping if it weren’t for the price. I love the workouts and the atmosphere is super positive and motivating!

Have you tried Burn? What are the things you like the least and the most about your current gym/group fitness program?

Weekending – Rainy Trolley, Beach Time, and Bar High Chair!

Hey, hey! How was your weekend? I hope it was fun and relaxing.. and that you’re looking forward to the 3-day weekend we have ahead of us :)

My FriYAY kicked off with a run around my neighborhood – Hot ‘n humid is the name of the running game this time of year. Phew!

Kyle took Friday off of work, so over my lunch hour we hit up Costco and an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant for lunch. Then on Friday night I had a girls’ night! A big group of us rented a trolley with the plan to have dinner, see the sunset, and then end the night dancing. Unfortunately, the rain ruined our sunset plan (and soaked us on the trolley, LOL), but it was still a lot of fun! We had dinner and drinks at Sea Salt and then finished the night at Blue Martini with a live band.

On Saturday, we spent the day on the beach as a family. It wasn’t crowded and Dean loved the new wagon we used!

The rest of Saturday we relaxed at home and Dean went to bed SUPER early… which meant he woke up at 5am on Sunday. YAY <– Note the sarcasm, LOL.

Spinning + CXWorx + Spark started my Sunday on the right foot. Dean and I hung at the gym while Kyle golfed.

A mid-day Target run was necessary… Everything was 10% off, how could I NOT go to Target?! My little shopping buddy loved the trip too ;)

When Kyle finished golfing, we decided to have a family-friendly Sunday funday at one of our favorite local breweries, Riptide. We were the ONLY ones there, so Dean was able to explore – AKA run around like a crazy man – and have fun with the bar-height high chairs. It was a great opportunity for a photo!

Kyle grilled burgers for Sunday night dinner and we called it an early night.

How was your weekend? Any fun workouts? Any Sunday Fundays?!

Monday Favorites

I tend to post my favorites of the week on Friday’s, but why not on a Monday?

Okay, you got me… I didn’t have a chance to post this past Friday so I’m posting a few days late ;) BUT, favorites are favorites so let’s kick off MonYAY on a happy note!

1. Date night on Saturday night! Kyle and I grabbed drinks at M Waterfront, dinner at Yabba Grill, and then dessert (AKA lotsa ice cream!) at Kilwin’s. It was a great way to spend date night!

Saturday morning was fun too with a rainy trip to the farmer’s market :)

2. The Olympics – While I’m not glued to the TV, it’s fun to watch updates and catch the competitions when I can.

3. Blue Raspberry Spark!!!!! (!!!!!!!!!! <– Because I didn’t have enough explanation points to begin with, LOL.) This is another limited time flavor and I’m super pumped for it! TBD on when it will be available for purchase – sometime this week – but if you want it, you gotta get it STAT. It’ll sell out quickly just like the other limited flavor – Pineapple Coconut – did earlier this summer.

4. The Fit Squad Virtual 5k – My fitness group came together on Saturday to run a 5k together! I was bummed I had to run mine inside on a DREADmill (boo to storms in Naples), but I loved seeing everyone’s photos and excitement for doing something fun and healthy together.

5. Burn Bootcamp! I plan on doing a full review once I’ve completed my first month, but so far so good. As in it hurts so good, LOL. The workouts are INTENSE and I’m actually somewhat concerned for the new-to-fitness women trying out Burn, but that story is for another day. I’m thankful that I have fitness knowledge and know when I should/shouldn’t do something to avoid injury… But for now, I’m loving it! If you have one in your area (and are currently in decent fitness shape), I recommend trying out their Groupon. $35 for a month which is much better than their normal $150/month!

6. Spark Variety Packs! I only have TWO left so let me know if you would like to claim one of ’em for yourself.

7. The new Snapchat-ish style of Instagram – At first I hated it (I’m not super into Snapchat…) but now I like it. I probably won’t use it a ton but it’s nice to share little blips into my days without creating a full post. I do wish they had cool Snapchat filters though ;)

How was your weekend? Share a MonYAY favorite to kick off your week!

While we didn’t have the most exciting weekend here in Naples, I’m working on getting back into the habit of blogging (SHOCK! Haha!) so here’s a little recap of what we were up to the past few days.

After arriving in Naples on Monday and then both Kyle and I catching up on work the rest of the week, Friday night was a much needed relaxing evening. Kyle cooked up Zucchini Shrimp Scampi (sooooo good!) and we watched Tiny House on HGTV.

I taught spinning on Saturday morning and then Dean and I hit up Trader Joe’s to stock up on goods for the week.

When Kyle got home from work, it was Daddy and Deany time while I napped. #bestdealever

I honestly have no recollection of what we did on Saturday evening. The plan WAS to watch the sunset but it started storming around 6pm so we decided to stay in. Gosh, we are super old, haha. It’s okay, we had pretty exciting weekends the past two weeks ;)

On Sunday morning, I hit up a couple of my new favorite classes – BODYATTACK and CXWorx. So. Much. Fun! And so much sweat, but we won’t talk about that ;)

I ran into work to show a new instructor around midday and then Kyle, Dean and I hit up Tacos and Tequila for a late lunch. T&T has two-for-one margaritas on Sundays so we (obviously) took full advantage ;)

Dean colored for the first time and ate a lot of chips. It was a great atmosphere, we will definitely be back.

The rest of the afternoon we relaxed while Dean napped… I played around with Snapchat (haha)… and then Kyle grilled up some delicious BBQ chicken for dinner.

Oh! And I set a workout plan for the week which I haven’t done in longer than I’d like to admit. I’m trying a new(ish) women’s bootcamp gym for the next month with my friend – I’m excited!

It was a super chill weekend and I’m ready for the week ahead.

How was your weekend? What was the most exciting part of your weekend?

Weekending – Memorial Day!

Long weekends are the best. I hope y’all had a great weekend and enjoyed an extra day with your family and friends! This Memorial Day weekend has felt long… and in a good way ;)

Here’s what I’ve been up to the past few days…

Getting my floors cleaned (with a little rest break!) on Friday afternoon. He’s a goofball… and I’ll hire him out if your floors need scrubbed, LOL.

Pizza at The Crust on Friday night.

Dean loving his new sippy cups.

Giving myself a pizza detox with a killer kettlebell workout at the gym on Saturday morning. Pool deck + weights + hot summer sun = alllll the sweat! #gymhairdontcare

On Saturday afternoon we made a family day date to Momentum Brewhouse – Dean loved the Jenga pieces.

The boys… up to no good I’m sure.

Playing with the water table in the front yard. This was his first time in grass – He didn’t mind it!

On Sunday I taught BODYPUMP – It was like old times!

Then Kyle went golfing and I got lots of cuddles with this cutie. He was having a hard time waking up from him nap.

Waiting for Dad to get home…

Monkey see, monkey do – He had to play with Mama’s wine glass ;)

This morning (Monday) – I ran almost 6 miles and ended at the beach. A dip in the Gulf was the perfect ending to my run!

Kyle and Dean met me after my run and we spent the morning as a family on the beach. It was the perfect day! And Dean lovessssss popcorn – We bought a popcorn maker this weekend so we can pop fresh kernels (sans salt/butter) for him to snack on. He probably ate 2 cups while we were at the beach!

We napped after the beach and Dean played hard for the rest of the afternoon. Kyle grilled dinner while the boys watched… steak and potatoes. It’s like we’re from Iowa or something ;)

I hope y’all had a wonderful long weekend – Here’s to a wonderful week ahead!

What did you do this weekend? Do you have any fun plans for the summer ahead?

Weekending – Mother’s Day fun!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope all you mama’s out there had a great time celebrating your day.

Our weekend didn’t start out on the best foot but it turned out to be a great one and I am just realizing that I did ZERO prep for the week ahead. Whoops! At least I had fun avoiding it ;)

Friday started out with a little breakfast… sans clothes for Deany. He loved it! #littleham

Halfway through my day, I received a call from daycare. Dean had a high fever and they thought it might be an ear infection. Sure enough it was – Poor dude! He – obviously from the morning photo – was acting perfectly fine. After his first dose of meds and a long afternoon nap, he was a happy little man again.

Mitchell and Deany playing through the glass door… It will never be clean again!

We called it an early night (after a few glasses of wine) and were up bright and early on Saturday morning. Dean didn’t sleep the best – we are guessing it is a combo of a few teeth getting ready to pop through and his ear hurting… but we survived. I started my day out with a run in the cool morning temps.

It was “free day” at the Naples Zoo and while the zoo may be small, Dean loves looking at the animals so we try to hit it up once a month. He rode like a king on Kyle’s back!

After the zoo was lunch at Stage 62 Deli – Dean ate SO MUCH FOOD. A few pickles, half of my fries, some chicken, crackers, bread… And he figured out how to drink through a straw so he got a few gulps of water too ;) Growing boy!

Since he ate a good lunch, Kyle shared his ice cream cone – Peanut butter cup… He loved it!

Kyle decided it was nap time so Dean and I made a trip to Target where we found a lot of things we obviously needed. LOL. After Target, I started decorating for Deany’s birthday party next weekend! I’ll share more after the party, but here is a little photo collage of Baby Dean. He looked like such an alien as a tiny baby haha.

We ordered in pizza and garlic knots on Saturday night – SO GOOD – and relaxed at home. #parentlife

Dean woke me up at 5:30am this morning singing HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY at the top of his lungs. At least that is what it sounded like to me… ;) Thank goodness for a new canister of Spark!

After a quick run followed by a walk with my boys, we visited our favorite brunch location – La Bazenne – for Mother’s Day breakfast. They took polaroid photos for all of the mama’s and also gave each of us mini macaroons for dessert. So sweet! My macaroons were raspberry and butterscotch (my least favorite flavors EVER, LOL) so Kyle benefited too ;)

IMG_1541 (1)

For brunch I ordered a delicious, smoked salmon crepe. YUM! It was most definitely a winner. I also ordered a mimosa… or two. #treatyoself Dean enjoyed a croissant and his baby crackers.

On the way home, we picked up adult beverages for Dean’s party and stone crab for dinner. Stone crab will never ever get old!

The rest of the afternoon involved attempting a nap…

… That ended with snacking on Goldfish…

… and sending Kyle to the grocery store (woohoo!!) It was obviously Mother’s Day but Mitchell waited at the door until Kyle arrived back home from Publix. That’s true love!

It was a wonderful weekend and a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day!

Treat Yourself Tuesday – Weekend Edition

Hiya! How about another round of Treat Yourself Tuesday??

I did a whole lotta treatin’ the past few days  – Let’s recap!

On Friday I took a vacation day (woohoo!) and after a fun cycling class, I dropped Dean off at daycare and headed to Key Largo for my girlfriend’s bridal shower and bachelorette party. Woohoo!! The 2.5 hour drive wasn’t as bad as I anticipated and once I arrived drinks, food, male straw paraphernalia (LOL), and THIS VIEW awaited me.

Gorgeous, yes?

The entire group of ladies (there were about 20 of us I think?) stayed in an incredible condo at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill – A “resort” on the water with a fun bar, pool, boat rentals, and an incredible restaurant. After catching up with a few (okay, a lot…) of drinks, we prettied ourselves up and headed to dinner. And my oh my was dinner ever a treat!

Seafood towers, filets, mussels, drinks, desserts… more dessert… We were spoiled and ate like queens!

Saturday was a relaxing pool day – for obvious reasons, and I hung out for the morning and then drove back to Naples as Kyle and I had plans to celebrate our anniversary. The drive back wasn’t as pleasant as the drive to Key Largo ;)

On Saturday, Kyle and I hired our first non-family babysitter for Dean (we all survived!) and met up with friends at Cooper’s Hawk Winery for drinks before heading to dinner at The Bay House. We will definitely be back to Cooper’s Hawk (it’s new to Naples!) and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset from our table at dinner. It was a wonderful time celebrating our 6th anniversary!

In case you’re new or want to check out our wedding day, you can find recaps here:

Sunday was our actual anniversary (May 1st!) and we kicked it off with a beach walk after Dean slept in his crib until 8am. #anniversarymiracle

After the beach Dean treated his parents to lunch at MASA… you can tell I was interrupting “man time” by taking this photo ;)

I ordered fish tacos and sangria as I obviously needed more alcohol over the weekend.

For our anniversary dinner, Kyle cooked up cajun red snapper along with quinoa. We also picked up some stone crab claws (SOOOOOO good!) to enjoy with dinner. I had my fill of both fish and drinks the past few days!

Yesterday morning I treated myself to a killer BODYPUMP class and sweat out the weekend. It hurt so good.

Finally, I am treating Dean’s teachers to a fun surprise today for Teacher Appreciation Week! I could NOT decide what to gift them but I always hear them chatting about healthy living so Dean and I crafted fun healthy gifts. A cute water bottle to stay hydrated, a Quest Bar for a tasty, protein-filled snack, lip gloss for healthy lips, and – most importantly – Spark for healthy energy! I hope they love them!!

How did you treat yourself this week? What are you gifting the teachers in your lives?

I’m having a total case of the Mondays today! Thankfully, I fit my workout in this morning (kicking and screaming…) and am feeling much better about the rest of the day ;)

Let’s chat the weekend though!

We had a chill night on Friday night – I hung Dean’s birthday sign (a few weeks early, LOL) and Kyle grilled turkey burgers. Dean enjoyed his dinner as well!

I’m glad Friday was a relaxing night because on Saturday, Dean decided he wanted to play starting at 5:45am! That called for lotsa Spark for mama, an early morning Target run, cleaning the entire house, the farmer’s market, lunch out on 5th Avenue, some fun in the pool, and trying on new shoes!

I also made some tasty (and healthy!) treats and we watched a gorgeous sunset on the beach. Best sunset we’ve seen here so far!

Sunday was another early morning – check out that bedhead.

I went on a nice run and then we enjoyed a walk on the beach, some time at the park (Dean’s first time swinging), and grilling.

Whew! We did A LOT the past 2 days. I’m looking forward to Friday – I took the day off of work and am heading to a friend’s bachelorette party in Florida. I CANNOT wait!!

How was your weekend? Was it productive? Fun? Did you do anything exciting?

Weekending – Crust, the Zoo, and Cuban food!

Weekending, weekending – It was another fun weekend in Naples. Today started out super cloudy but it cleared off and turned out to be the most perfect day!

How about a weekend recap?

First of all, check out Dean’s Friday face. The kid cracks me up!

After teaching BODYPUMP on Friday afternoon, I grabbed a late lunch at Chipotle with The Deanster. #chipotlequeen

On Friday night, Kyle and I hit up the new Crust location with some friends. Dean was actually really good and entertained himself with a large table of kids behind us. I was surprised since we were out way past his bedtime.

Saturday morning was the launch of BODYPUMP97 at the Y. Launch day is always so much fun!

Late morning, we decided to take Dean to the Naples Zoo for the first time. Once per month the zoo admits Collier County residents for free (tickets are normally almost $20/person so it’s a deal!) so we took full advantage. It was HOTTTT but Dean had fun animal (and people, LOL) watching.

Kyle had been wanting to try Rumba Cuban Cafe FOREVER (apparently it is rated #1 on Trip Advisor in Naples) so we made a quick stop after the zoo for some lunch. It was SOOOO good! I wish we lived closer because I’d be there more often than I like to admit ;) The best places to eat in Naples tend to be in random strip malls and Rumba is no exception to that rule. YUM.

The rest of Saturday we hung out at home. Kyle grilled chicken for dinner and we called it an early night.

And Dean snacked in the nude ;)

On Sunday morning I went out for a quick run – I didn’t have a time or distance goal in mind. It felt great!

Even though it was cloudy, we hit up the beach for a little family walk. Walking in the sand with a 20 pounder is no joke…

Kyle made lunch and had to do a little work so Dean and I made a Target run… Cheddar Bunnies for Deany, new pillow for mommy ;) That is how I like to shop!

And now I’m all prepped for the week – Clean sheets on the bed (and Dean’s crib), lunches packed, floors vacuumed… ahh feels so good. Andddd I’m also currently shopping for a lazy susan, any recommendations? There are SO many options, I’m overwhelmed!

How was your weekend? Any fun happenings to report?
